A 13-year-old girl was killed in an accidental rocket explosion in Kampong Speu province Friday, while cleaning an ancestral alter in preparation for New Year.

The girl was cleaning a stupa where her father's ashes are kept when she found an unexploded B-40 rocket and began playing with it and pounding on it, Provincial Police Chief Keo Pisei said.

The rocket exploded, killing the girl and wounding her younger brother and mother, Keo Pisei said.

About 440 people died from land mine and unexploded ordnance accidents in 2006, according to the Cambodia Mine Action Center.
