Khmer Krom. Following last Friday’s confrontation, the association of Khmer Krom monks led by Monk Yoeung Sin sent a letter to Heng Samrin, the president of the National Assembly, to inform him about their situation on the eve of the arrival of Heng Samrin’s Vietnamese counterpart. The association wishes to see the defrocked Khmer Krom monks returning back to religion. “I cannot interfere in Vietnam’s internal affairs,” Heng Samrin replied. The committee of Khmer Krom associations deplored yesterday that four more Khmer Krom monks were forced to defrock in the province of Preah Trapeang. The latest four cases bring to 16 the number of defrocking forced by the Vietnamese authorities on Khmer Krom monks in the past 2 months.
