UN criticises Cambodia over murder trial

Australian Broadcasting Corporation

A United Nations human rights envoy has criticised a Cambodia court for upholding the conviction of two men whom human rights groups allege were framed over the murder of a prominent union leader.

Born Samnang and Sok Samouen were sentenced to 20 years in jail for the killing of union leader Chea Vichea, despite rights groups pointing out a lack of evidence and holes in the prosecution's arguments.

The United Nations special representative for human rights in Cambodia, Yash Gai, says the appeal court ruling is a "grave injustice" which underlines "continuing impunity" in the country.

He called for an impartial and credible investigation into the murder.

Yep, someone got to be in charge
of the court. And foreigners and
