The director of the Beehive radio station handed a letter to King Norodom Sihamoni today, asking the king to pardon Prince Ranariddh, President of the NRP.

Mam Sonando told RFA on 17 May that the reason which made him decide to hand a letter to the king to pardon Prince Ranariddh was because he believes that the prince is a political figure, and that political figures have diverging opinions, in spite of the fact that all of them have the same idea: nationalism. Therefore, Mam Sonando wants to see Ranariddh obtaining the freedom to participate in Cambodia’s political life, in order to build the country.

Mam Sonando said: “I believe that political figures in Cambodia all have nationalist ideals … but, the divergence in opinions, the disputes between each others, I believe that this is normal, however no matter how much we fight each others, no matter how different our opinions differ from one another, we should not be broken apart from one another, and we should not fight each other and becoming envious of each others, trying to kill each others, and jailing others, I do not support these (actions)…”

On 12 May, a delegation of high-ranking NRP officials handed over to the king, a petition bearing at least 200,00 thumbprints, asking the king to pardon Prince Ranariddh so that the latter can return home to lead his party to compete in the upcoming 2008 general election.

The assertion that divergence in opinion among politician is normal is right, but there is no difference to the political landscape in Cambodia whether Rannariddh contest or not. I don't support the current ruling CPP, but I despise NRP even more. Ranariddh is incompetent, money-blinded, and very selfish. I have never regarded him as a person who is fit to lead a country. His bad track record in leading his party from a victorious 1993 to the new defunct state it is in is testament to his ability to "lead". His corruption level is well-known to be "corrupt to the bone". I see no future for Cambodia if this guy is to be PM.

I support Ranariddh to re-enter Cambodia on the condition that all royal family members quit politics. Other than that, it is better to not disturb the current status quo.

We should not let Ranariddh back into politic. In the US a politician makes one mistake and he's out. Ranariddh had many chances. He's a womanizer, not a politician. He's a joke for politic. Only the dumb ones trust him.

Ranariddh has been convicted not for his opinion as Mam Sonando seems to have claimed, but for breach of trust. Mam Sonando's second reason, that is, Ranariddh's participation in the political life of the country, is very weak. Ranariddh's political performance record has been so poor that it is very difficult to see he could perform any better.

Ranariddh`s face is just as thick as his father. These two have no shame what they each did to their own country and people. I think he should not be pardon and ban him permnamently. In reality, Ranariddh and his father never like to stay in Cambodia as you all see everyday. Just sad that these two is still trying to drag our people to the ground for there silly cause.
