Cambodia saw a steady increase in rice production in the last 10 years ... but yet the Cambodian people are still starving

07 May 2007
Cambodia has more than 2 million tons of rice paddy reserve

Everyday.com.kh
Translated from Khmer by Heng Soy

An official from the Ministry of Agriculture said that in 2007, in all of Cambodia, there is a reserve of 1,433,829 [metric] tons of rice, or an equivalent of 2,240,357 tons of rice paddy. This rice reserve came from the 2006-2007 harvest, when Cambodia extended the area of its cultivable lands, and when the average production yield was 2.489 tons [per hectare]. During the last 10 years, from 1997 to 2006, the quantity of rice in Cambodia has increased steadily except for 2002 and 2004, when the rice quantity declined due to drought and flooding during 2001 and 2003 the rice planting season.

Cambodia has no problem in growing rice to feed themselves! But it is the Vietcong and the Chinese middlemen who manipulated the market price and take the rice out of Cambodia...

Cambodia rice market need some regulation which demand that Cambodian people can afford to buy rice at certain price otherwise all the Vietcong and Chinese middlemen horde will scoop up all the rice production and send it to international market while Cambodian people are starving!!!

Cambodian people deserve to eat and to live!!!!

Yes, growing rice a sad story for Cambodian farmers because the price of their rice will be lower and lower...cannot compare with plastic shoes that they sell in the market.

Government has no intention at all to boom the price of farmer rice...and they have no framed any reliable mechanism to help reduce poor with farmers by selling their agricultural products especially rice...

What a heck my government....use brain to find rich for the farmers first...not for your officials and those rich individuals....

Well, if you are starving, I
propose you go to the US and suck
on their tax payers like Ah Khmer-
Gringoes doing it. In cambodia, we
don't allowed people to do that
to our taxpayers.
