Following the sudden death of several tons of fish in the Tonle Sap river in Phnom Penh during Monday night, Yin Kim Sean, the secretary of state for the Ministry of Environment, gave the results of the preliminary analyses of collected water samples. According to him, the presence of large amount of excrements in the bottom of the fish cages cause a lack of oxygen and an increase of carbon dioxide concentration. Added to that are the first rains which “warmed up the earth” and increased the water temperature, this would have caused the death of the fishes. Other analysis results are expected. Rasmei Kampuchea quoted yesterday a representative of the nearby SKD winery who confirmed that the factory dumped water in the river, but that it was not polluted.

I also took the water sample and found out that too many Yuons shit in the water caused the polluted suffocation of the fish. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh good news, at least no one is
gonna be poisoned from eating the
fish. I am happy. Just hope we can
find a cheap solution to this in
order to keep the price of fish
low.

The first sign of any oxygen deficiency in the water is the abundant of algae growing the water.

Don't worry, there are many of
baby fishes still surviving. They
don't need oxygen until they their
egg is all worn out. So they will
grow back in no time because the
water is very rich with all sorts
of nutrients.
