A high-ranking NRP official plans to lead a delegation for an audience with King Norodom Sihamoni at the beginning of May, in order to present to him a petition bearing more than 200,000 thumbprints demanding the king to pardon Prince Norodom Ranariddh who was sentenced in secret by the Phnom Penh municipal court to an 18-month jail sentence.
Noranartih Anandayath, the special advisor of Prince Ranariddh, said that the request for the royal pardon will pave the way for the return of Prince Ranariddh to Cambodia so that he can participate in the upcoming 2008 general election.
Anandayath said: “The pardon for Prince Ranariddh is a political issue, I am confident that the government will not oppose it because it is not related to national affair.”
He claimed that the campaign to collect the thumbprints from supporters of the pardon of Prince Ranariddh, took place right after the commune election on 01 April.
In reaction to this plan, Khieu Kanharith, the government spokesman, said: “In a state with the rule of law, the number does not represent the law, the application of the law is needed.”
At the beginning of March, Hun Sen announced in public that the government will not make any request for pardon for Ranariddh, until he has completed 2/3 of his 18-month jail sentence.
On 13 March 2007, Prince Ranariddh was sentenced in secret by the Phnom Penh municipal court to 18-mongth in jail and a fine of $150,000 for breach of trust in the sale of the Funcinpec party headquarters. Nhiek Bun Chay was the one who brought up the case to court. On 13 March 2007, Prince Thomico, delegate general of the Sangkum Jatiniyum Party, issued a statement stating that King Sihamoni has the full right to pardon Prince Ranariddh.
The NRP statement considers the sentence on the prince as political affair.
Recently, the US embassy recognized the results of the commune election, but it criticizes the absence of [some] political leaders in Cambodia, thereby weakening democracy. In 2008, the US embassy would like to see a general election conducted with fairness and following the rules of democracy.

If Rannarith party is a genuine political party, they must have the will to completely abolish the culture of tolerance to corrupted officials such as Rannarith, Chak Krapong etc.. and etc... Please do not ask the king for a pardon. We really need a social justice. If this alleged criminal can be pardonned, all the people in the jails have to be released to be fair.

Sdech means some who want to take everything for himself without considering to others. Sdech= a bad man= a selffish person
