A government official reacted to the report issued by the human rights organization Amnesty International (AI), and accused the report of exaggerating the true situation in Cambodia
Om Yentieng, the president of the government organization for the defense of human rights in Cambodia, said on Thursday that the report issued by AI only wants to topple the government. He said that AI never provides justice to the Cambodian government at all, and he also accused the AI report of supporting the opposition party.
Om Yentieng said: “The person who wrote this report about Cambodia is too politically biased, and he did not use a pen to write, but used a brush to color (the situation). Therefore, I am asking them: ‘Sirs! That’s enough, please have some mercy, please be neutral, don’t condemn Cambodia nonstop like this, if you want to help the opposition party, just shout out that you help the opposition openly, there is no reason to distort and create a bad reputation for yourself.’”
The reaction from Om Yentieng took place after AI issued a report on Wednesday 23 May stating that Cambodia does not respect human rights by evicting several people from the lands they occupied, Cambodia did not push for the adoption of the anti-corruption law, and Cambodia creates obstacle to the progress of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.
Regarding this report, Om Yentieng said: “The (AI) say that we evict people from Phnom Penh, then however large their love for Cambodians is, we as Khmer like (the evicted people) would love them (evicted people from Phnom Penh) 1,000 times more. We cannot kill our own people like this, and we work to obtain the vote, we are not dumb enough to kill ourselves. Don’t think that we are dumb. Furthermore, the institution to fight corruption was formed by the ruling party, if it is not under the ruling party, who should it be under? Under AI, eh? If it’s like this, please take away our sovereignty, there is no need to hold an election, no need to find a party to rule. If we hold the power, then we are the rulers, you (AI) talk so sweet, you want AI to govern Cambodia?”
Notwithstanding (Om Yentieng’s ranting), Seng Theary, Director of the Center for Social Development, said that she supports the AI report. “I trust the research done by AI. The goals of this organization are very valuable for each country in the world, in particular for countries that lack respect for human rights.”
Quite often, Cambodia suffers the scolding from national and international institutions for its non-respect of human rights stemming from the recent violent land eviction of people, the use of violence on Khmer Krom monks and workers, and Cambodia also has a large proportion of corrupt government officials, a fact that was duly noted by national and international organizations as well.

Who is Om Yin Tieng?
Folks, please be not fooled by Om Yin Tieng's fluent Khmer. He's not born Cambodian. Actually, Om Yin Tieng is a top Vietnamese agent sent by Hanoi to watch, advise, guide, direct and control Hun Sen and other CPP Standing Committee members such as Chea Sim, Chea Soth, Sok An, Sar Kheng, Bou Thang, Say Chhum, Dith Munty, Im Chhun Lim, etc...
When Om Yin Tieng talks to either foreign diplomats or the press, he doesn't talk the way Hun Sen or other high-ranking CPP officials want him to, he talks the way he's instructed by Hanoi to talk, period. He doesn't care one bit about public opinion. He doesn't give a damn about remarks, statements or reports made by either US Ambassador, Mr. Joseph A. Mussomeli, or UN Human Rights Special Envoy to Cambodia, Mr. Yash Ghai. Why? Because Hanoi's interests on Cambodia far outweigh all public scrutiny.
The other two guys who copy Om Yin Tieng's style are Khieu Kanharith and Khieu Sopheak. But they are born Cambodian and not Hanoi's agents like Om Yin Tieng. These three loudspeakers (Om Yin Tieng, Khieu Kanharith and Khieu Sopheak) will never be forgotten by Khmer people. When the time comes, they will be dealt with exactly the same way as the Khmer Rouge cadres were dealt with by Cambodia's eastern people soon after the KR regime was crushed by Hanoi's regular army in late December 1978 and early January 1979.
Om Yin Tieng, enjoy making totally irrelevant statements to diplomats and the press while you still can!

Before the war, we were together in the high school and the university. He was one of the best students ever. Concerning the academic achievement in the country and abroad, guys like you are nothing to compare with him. During the Pol Pot time he was suffering from starvation like other millions of Cambodians as well. To be continued....

During the Pol Pot time he was suffering from starvation like other millions of Cambodians as well. The spreaded untruth about him from you or other ignorant people, he should be brought up by Viet Cong, is just unmoral, unfair and extremely attacked and violated to person. If you do not know anything about making politics, ask him and learn from him. The first step to progress oneself – in this case yourself- is to treat your own people with respect.
As an academic, PhD in international Law and Economics, I remark that people of high level of education and of good character in the western countries or anywhere would never make a statement like: “Cambodians should learn from the western” But who are you? You make such an arrogant phrase. You must be a person of a primitive character. If you are a Cambodian, you are a blame and a problem self for the nation. If you are a Citizen of a western country, you are bringing a disgrace on your nation. I think, in spite of problems, Cambodian Universities have well developed. Cambodian universities, Universities of South-East-Asia and Western universities are stepping the ongoing procedure of collaboration in network and other form of working together.
Finally, as an academic collaborating in networks of universities in the whole world, I know exactly how to proof if somebody blows him- or herself up in Cambodia to be a very important person by using fake diplomas or spreading an untruth that he or she’s got a high graduation from abroad. In the hope that a lot of innocent Khmer would accept and trust him or her, this person misuses the trust of the huge number of Khmer people for his or her own benefit.
Has Sam rangsy ever completed his exam as a financial expert at any official university in France or where ever? In France, like in many western countries, anyone can call himself Expert in Finance. This title is not protected. The one which is officially acknowledged and protected by the federative institutions is something else. Was Sam Rangsy successful in France in his vocational career? In Cambodia he is puffing himself up using his oppositional role in political landscape.
Seng Theary: Graduated in Law, at which university? For sure none!! In America, it is even worse than in France. People can buy accreditation from some private institutions. Has she ever been officially accepted as an attorney in America? After learning some phrases of Human Rights by heart she puffs herself up by making Cambodia down as if no one would understands about this subject but her.
Those psychologically ill people are lacked of success in achievement of their career in the western countries. Coming to Cambodia, they misused the innocent belief and blank trust of the uneducated Khmer to make themselves important. Like this, they can satisfy their own need of the personal benefit that they would never get in the western country.
Yes, I was one of Om Yentieng’s class mates as well. We were together in the best and severest high school in Phnom Penh (in French: Lycee). Unfortunately, I couldn’t continue the study with him at the university. As a PhD in medicine or better said MD, medical doctor’s family in Phnom Penh, they (Om Yentieng and his family) always helped other people in adversity. Since I left the country and I live in America, I’m no more closely linked with him. But until now, I’m still thankful of their support and hospitality during the period of my high school in Phnom Penh. They were the best people I’ve ever met in my life. Coming from the rural region to Phnom Penh as a student lacked of money and social environment, it was my good destine to have Om Yentieng as a classmate. I was allowed to stay very often at his parents’ house. His family treated me like one of them. We studied, had meal … just did everything together with other friends in his house. Or we went out together or discussed a lot of philosophical themes, politics and other current happens in the country of that time. Om Yentieng and his family’s attitude has always been very world opened. We were young and active students with plenty creative ideas and vision in our heads. If there was no war and criminal and dictatorial regime of Pol Pot, Cambodia would be one among the best developed countries like Singapore, for example.
Now my address to those people pretending to know Om Yentieng and accusing him to be born in northern Viet Nam and so on: STOP BEHAVE YOURSELF UNDER THE BELTLINE, JUST SHUT UP FOR EVER AND STOP STANDERING HIM AND SPREADING WRONG RUMORS ABOUT HIM. OM YENTIENG DOES NOT DESERVE ANY KINDS OF INFAMOUS INSINUATION.
