Sok An, the vice-prime minister and Minister of the Council of Ministers, was officially declared on Monday as the president of the National Scout Association of Cambodia. He is to lead this association into strengthening the ability of the Cambodian youth to avoid and reduce their drug use, and to avoid perpetrating delinquent acts which are ravaging Cambodia currently.
In a speech given to 300 Scouts during a ceremony announcing his new position, Sok An, the new president of the National Scout Association of Cambodia said: “This decision is based on the results of our congress held on 27 May 2006. If we have two or three Scout movements (in Cambodia), the international community will not cooperate with us, this is the only Scout leadership in the Kingdom of Cambodia.”
Sok An, added that his association will become a member of the international scout movement (during an event) which will be held in October 2007.
A source indicated that the National Scout Association of Cambodia was formed as a NGO in 1999, and, currently, it has about 20,000 members all over Cambodia, and it has recently enrolled over 2,000 new members.
Prak Chitra, a member of the National Scout Association of Cambodia since 1999, told RFA on Monday that the activities of the Scout Association are very important, especially regarding humanity and education.
Prak Chitra said: “The formation of the scout membership was done to regroup the youth and the children, so that these children receive training and good education for them to become good citizens (in the future). It also teaches children to be brave, and it cuts down the idle time spent by children (that could) get (them) involved in delinquencies.”
In reaction to this issue, opposition leader Sam Rainsy criticized the fact that a high-ranking government official is interfering with the activity of a NGO. “Therefore, I want each person to fulfill his/her work in his/her actual position, such as minister, vice-prime minister, president of various institutions, of government institutions. That would be more than adequate already, there is no need for him/her to work outside the government at all. Under the current government, if we talk about the youth, a lot of them don’t even have a job,” Sam Rainsy said.
A source indicated that in the past, Cambodia has two scout groups: the Scout Association of Cambodia, and the Association of Khmer Scout, however, the 2 groups have been merged into a single movement so that it can become a member of the international scout movement. The international body does not recognize the fact that there are two scout movements in one country.

Sok An will trains the scout to be vietnam slave forever. Those children don't know what they are getting into. Someone needs to warn them about their future. They will be body guards and soldiers for CPP.

Sok An's acceptance to be a non-profitable scout organization president is just another step to monopoly the power. Cambodia is not democratic at all because the power is just around the butt of PM and those PM's cabinets.
CPP government speaks good about democracy but power is really centralizing around one absolute person. This leadership is not different from KR.
But it is worse than that because KR showed the people and the world openly about its cruelty, but CPP government has been subtly brainwashing Cambodian people not understand the reality of who they are, what is wrong and right, what is theirs and ours....so it can be easily totally swallowed by Vietnam....
Let see how many other positions that Sok An can put his name as president???

He has too many posittions already in the goverment and those positions are very important for the courntry. Do u think Mr. Sok An has 25 hours a day to work for his position?No. Plus, how many youth today want him to lead them?So not to be the leader just for lead, but be responsible as the leader.

Scout of America teaches American youth the value and priciple set forth by American founding fathers. They have 200+ years of history they are proud of to pass on to their youngs.
What Sok An and his ruling party cronies have to pass on to young Cmabodians is a big question one should ask.
First, Sok An didn't even know that he is khmer. Ok'd he was born there, but very little he has shown an interest as khmer.
Second, Sok An and his ruling party are under Vietnam control. They will not teach khmer youth to be proud of their cultural heritage and to defend their homeland against invader vietnamese. They will not teach khmer youth bravery and be independant minded and sacrifice for their country.
Third, this scout organization will be filled with vietnamese youth learning the greatness of Ho Chi Minh instead.
Rise up khmers. Send these tyrant traitors packing to their master.
