The Front Sangkum Jatiniyum party will hold a congress this weekend to decide whether its 5,000 members should join the Norodom Ranariddh Party, officials said Thursday.
The FSJ, headed by Prince Sisowath Thomico, has royalist leanings, and several of its members have reportedly been offered spots in the party headed by Norodom Ranariddh, a political figure living in exile after he was found guilty in absentia on charges related to embezzlement.
Prince Thomico will become NRP vice president, and South Dina could be given an undersecretary position, officials said.
South Dina said the FSJ will retain its name but will conduct political activities.
The country is headed for national elections next year—in polls that may see two competing opposition parties and two royalist parties.
Prince Ranariddh quit Funcinpec in the wake of embezzlement allegations, but started his self-named party prior to this year's commune elections.
The ruling CPP won those elections handily, and Prime Minister Hun Sen said afterward he planned to keep Funcinpec as the party's coalition party. Following that promise, he fired a Funcinpec Minister of Tourism and replaced him with a CPP member.

Hello Thomico, I am very fair to everyone. In politic, please be braved and be confidenced to yourself and to your party. You should join with Rannarith at all. You must understand that Cambodians people are no longer stupid. Rannarith has done a lot of mistakes and has committed a lot of crimes. We cannot afford to have this kind of crminal to lead Cambodia any longer. Cambodians have auffered so much from these kind of people. We should leave him alone and wait for a good government to bring him for prosecution. You must do your job with your full potential. Please do not over-do. With your small resources, try to win just a few seats and work from there for a political life. Try all your best by yourself to prove that you are differents from other idiot Prince. Hello Idiot 6:30AM, SRP is one of the most political experiences party in Cambodia fighting with a group of gangster in Cambodia. He has his name heard amoung Cambodians inside and out of Cambodia already. Thomico is just coming out to venture his political life. We cannot mix the old and the young before we knew his real motive first. Many people were very good before having power. But after having power, that same can turn into animal like Rannarith. So we need to see Thomico performance first before we can invite him into SRP coalition. I am not a SRP activist either, therefore, it is up to SRP party to decide. Areak Prey
