PHNOM PENH, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The spreading rate of AIDS has been down to 0.6 percent in 2005 from 1.9 percent in 2003, Chinese-language newspaper the Jian Hua Daily on Friday quoted government sources as saying.
The rate became lower, because the government has allocated more budgets for prevention and the disease itself is undertaking a change from common spread to concentrated spread in Cambodia, the newspaper said.
The government's budget for AIDS prevention in 2007 stands twice higher than 2006, while the disease is spreading from urban areas to rural areas.
In order to contain its infection, the government will establish a special department to handle the concerned issues, it said.
All the Cambodians are expected to be able to receive free legal and medical services about AIDS prevention from the government in 2010, such as blood test and offer of condom, it added.
Cambodia is one of the worst-hit countries in the region in the field of AIDS spread. In 1997, its infection rate ran at 3.3 percent.
