Foreign tourists look at a former Casino building at Bokor mountain in Kompot province some 200 kilometers south west of Phnom Penh. A symbol of both the excesses of Cambodia's golden age and the apocalypse that followed, the long abandoned -- some say ghostly -- hotel and casino is now only haunted by curious tourists wandering among its dank rooms and tiny hallways(AFP/File/Tang Chhin Sothy)

The Sokimex petroleum company of Cambodia plans to renovate the casino building located on top of Bokor Mountain and turns it into a resort. Sorn Sokna, Sokimex vice-president, told The Cambodia Daily that his company plans to renovate the bullet-pockmarked casino, and turns it into a resort. He hopes that after the building renovation, it will attract more tourists to come and visit the mountain area. Sorn Sokna said that the building will be renovated to its 70s heyday condition, and Sokimex plans to pave the road up the mountain, but he declined to say how much this renovation plan will cost, nor when it will be completed. The casino building was abandoned during the 70s war era, and there was no upkeep of the building since then, some parts of the building is also heavily damage.

KI-Media Note: SRP MP Yim Sovann told The Cambodia Daily also that the building should be preserved as a museum because of its historical significance, rather than turning it into a gambling establishment.
