Cambodian PM calls for carrying out "one village, one product" policy

June 05, 2007

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen Tuesday called on each local community to mobilize and use its potential resources to promote specialization in carrying out the One Village, One Product (OVOP) policy.

"We should focus our attention on promoting local productions by maintaining the quality and quantity of the products to timely response to the market," said Hun Sen while addressing the National Conference on OVOP.

By doing so, Cambodia can strengthen the competitiveness of the local products, and the overspending on imports can be gradually reduced through promoting import substitution, he said.

Under this framework, he said, the government will continue to push the OVOP movement to foster innovative ideas and self-confidence of rural people based on four important principles, he said.

The principles are to "find the production method that is suitable to the village's conditions and meet the market demand; enable and encourage people to produce by improving market access, providing credit, transferring technology and supplying seeds; build management capacity and human resources; and enable the people to establish agricultural community to ensure price stability of the product," he added.

OVOP has been initiated by Cambodia for a long time to include products like baskets, pottery, silk and food.

The concept is also put into practice in many countries around the world such as Thailand, Philippines, China, South Korea, Malaysia and some other countries in Africa and America.

OVOP with four principles, it sounds good from his speech, but it is again his centralizing for power.

Why?

Because the principles of democracy, the respect for human rights, the ant-corruption driving forces, the improving of national law enforcement, the indenpendent of assembly and judiciary, the immigration law to ban illegal immigrants effectively...etc are neglected and ignored by Hun Sen government.

OVOP is like Triangle or Rectangular, or iron fist policy...etc especially it might be easy for CPP to buy the poor people to vote for him....

So we can conclude that his development policy is only happening around his butt and bolstering such notorious long lasting power...

Hun Sen wanted khmers to believe that he is looking after khmers interests. But his action is totally opposite. He and his cohorts sold most small industries around the country to foreign interests who shut them down and send workers home.

Those words he uttered are coached by his master the vietnamese who confered the PhD degree on him so he can deceive and divide khmers.

He won't be able to do that for long. Because khmers ran out of options but to struggle to get rid of slave minded people like Hun Sen and the royal puppets.

Khmers will have to rise to wrestle soverrignty and territorial integrity from the vietnamese puppets.

To be able to make products by our own is the only way out of poverty. If our government can support and promote the policy from the highest level with the real willingness, Cambodia will move forward more rapidly.

But, it needs also the will of Cambodians to produce somthing in their villages. By curse or luck, Cambodians are born on a very fertile land, tehy can find always something to eat. So, the commercial activities do not a favorable activities for Cambodian peoples. I observe that Chinese and vietnamese imigrants arrived in Cambodia with only a small bag of cloth and 5 years or less, they became wealthy in the village and many cambodians were their borrowers. When they have money, they can send their children to school, to have good education and to be finally successful and to be boss of our countrymen. Finally, only the sentiment of revenge, of hate that result from this. The Chinese or vietnamese cambodians think original cambodians are stupid and original cambodians hate chinese or vietnamese Cambodians as the later profit from them. I know that it is not always true but it happened in our society. Let's face the truth.

The solution is to understand and learn from each other. Learn what work and what doesn't work. We are all in the same country. Chineses, Vietnameses and Cambodians live on the same land and they are supposed to serve our beautiful land, Cambodia. They have to love Cambodia.

I wonder who told him to say these words. He shall say: one man One PM. What wrong with him?

Well said, 12:53, and we need to
reform our education on how we
teach for kids and what we teach
our kids. We must hook them on
education, or else, we will always
be behind our neighbors. Cambodia
was once the leader of the region
and we can do it again. I have no
doubt about that. We need not to
stick to western methodology that
only produced followers like Ah
Khmer-Gringoes around the globe
when we could be leaders of the
world instead, just by having
faith in ourselves.
