China promised to provide over 100 motorcycles to Cambodian cops. This promise took place during a visit to China by a high-ranking delegation of Cambodian cops, led by Hok Lundy, the national police chief.
The motorcycles to be provided to Cambodian cops are part of a Chinese promise to provide yearly aid in order to help hone the capacity of Cambodian cops.
In 2006, China provided 6 boats to the police as part of its cooperation in the fight against maritime crimes.
Police general Sok Phal who traveled to China with the Cambodian delegation, said that China provided the aid to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in the fight against trans-border crimes.
Sok Phal said: “The Cambodian police delegation led by general Hok Lundy visited Beijing based on an invitation from the Chinese security ministry. The main point is that we work together, and more importantly, we have bilateral cooperation to eradicate trans-border crimes. We also obtained the agreement from the Vice Minister of the PRC security ministry whom we met and who will help provide training for Cambodian police officers, in particular in crime and investigation. Secondly, the PRC will provide a number of equipments and means for the Cambodian police just like what it did last year when it provided Cambodia with 6 boats for the Cambodian maritime police. This year, it will help provide 105 large motorcycles for the police force also. Thirdly, there will be exchanges of visiting delegations between the Cambodian and the Chinere police forces.”
General Ek Sok Phal praised the cooperation between the Cambodian and the Chinese police. He added that the police force in the two countries have cooperated to fight trans-border crimes, and a large number of illegal activities. He cited that during the beginning of 2007, Cambodia deported back 74 illegal Chinese and handed them over to Beijing.
The delegation visit will last between 12 to 16 June.
