Monday's crash of a tourist plane spotlighted some of Cambodia's lax safety policies and dangerous transport.
Development groups and opposition lawmakers said Wednesday they wanted a closer review of systems in place for tourism and transport companies.
About 2 million visitors traveled to Cambodia last year, mainly to see the temples of Angkor Wat. While there, they may have traveled by speeding bus, rickety boat, accident-prone motorcycle—or flown in local air carriers with poor safety records.
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith said safety systems must be reviewed in order to serve tourism in land, waterway, and air transportation, and he urged adequate insurance for tourist companies.
