Hun Sen elected as veterans president

Prime Minister Hun Sen was elected as president of the association of veterans of Cambodia during an election held at an internal congress of the association on Wednesday. Rasmei Kampuchea reported that this congress also elected Tea Banh, Minister of Defense, as the secretary-general and a member of the 74-member central committee of the association. Ith Som Heng said that the formation of the association of veterans was an idea of Hun Sen in order to raise the standards of veterans in the society to be in par with the service they rendered to the country. He said that now, there are more than 80,000 veterans who are receiving pensions from the state.
