Prime Minister Hun Sen declared on Wednesday afternoon that the European Community (EU) is interfering with Burma’s internal affairs by pushing again and again for the release of Mrs. Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese opposition leader placed under house arrest. During a speech given at a seminar, Hun Sen said that EU should understand that Burma is currently facing difficulties because it is moving towards democracy. Although he did not name Mrs. Aung San Suu Kyi directly, Hun Sen said that the EU is demanding for the release of “that woman,” but they should understand the situation inside Burma also. Hun Sen added that the leaders of this country do not want to govern the country forever, and he also said that the writing of the Burmese constitution will be completed soon. Pius Fisher, the German Ambassador to Cambodia, declined to comment on Hun Sen’s speech, however, he said that the ASEAN policy is not to interfere with the internal affairs of its members.

Dictator like Hun Sen must stick together like those in Burma. After all, Hun Sen would hate to have the EU interferin with the internal affair of his mafia state.
