On Monday morning, the National Assembly (NA) approved the draft law preserving the number of NA seats at 123 for the fourth legislative mandate. The vote received 83 approvals out of the total quorum of 92 MPs attending the session. Sar Kheng, vice-prime minister and minister of Interior, came to the NA to defend the draft law which includes 2 articles stating that, based on the joint evaluation performed by the evaluation committee for the number of NA seats for the upcoming fourth legislative mandate to be authorized by the king, there is no need to increase the NA seats, not even by one seat. Prime Minister Hun Sen also declared that the preservation of NA seats for the fourth legislative mandate is truly in agreement with the social and economical situations. Earlier, the opposition party and civil society called on the NA to increase the current number of seats from 123 to 130, based on the increase in the number of population, and to help facilitate MPs task to properly visit their constituents.

This is to prove that Cambodia is still being ruled by a law of jungle. There was a call to increase the number of seat by opposition party leader. In democratic way, in election 2008, there should be have a referendum for the selection of the number of seat by the people.
Government's excuss is baseless
