A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on 08 June 2007 morning, and presided by Prime Minister Hun Sen, has voted to approve the draft law determining the number of seats for the 4th mandate of the National Assembly (NA). The draft law preserves the same number of seats at its current number of 123.

At a plenary meeting, the council of ministers agreed and approved the draft law determining the number of seats for the fourth mandate NA based on Article 7 of the law for the election of lawmakers. The council has decided to preserve the same number of seats of 123, based on its review of the current social and economic situation of Cambodia.

Recently, the Sam Rainsy Party and civil society officials called on the government to increase the number of NA seats to 135 because of the increase in the population size, therefore, the government should also increase the number of lawmakers accordingly so that there is a sufficient number of lawmakers to take care of their constituents.

Why don't the government and NA reduce salary of NA in order to get more people to work in parliament? The government and NA just reduced the salary of night-shift workers from 200% to 130% in order to keep more job, but the NA and government do not reduce their own salary in order to get more NA to work. Is it the honest reason of the government not to increase number of NA?
All of the NA and government officials are enjoying power over the suffering of the people.

This is basically policized by the government. They don't want to increase the numbers of parliamentary seats because those additional seats will be absolutely offered to SRP.

CPP government cannot move anything known as righteousness and legality because doing so they will lose power...and the people of Cambodia is still in illegal edge led by CPP.

Increasing seats is legal and suitable for the Cambodia demographic.

Noope, the additional seats will
not all goes to the Ah Sam Nazi.
It will be divided according to
the votes. Therefore, if we were
to add 10 seats, 9 will go to the
CPP and only one will go to Ah
Sam Nazi.
