On Sunday, RFA indicated that three reporters have complained to the Ministry of Information and the relevant authorities about a Pursat court official for murder attempt and the prevention of the freedom to report by journalists. Heng Veasna, a reporter for the Tussanak Khmer (Khmer View), told RFA that he and two other reporters from the Kampuchea Ekareach (Independent Cambodia) newspaper lodged a complaint against the prosecutor of the province of Pursat for beating them up, and threatening to shoot them, when the trio was obtaining information about the eradication of illegal logging. Tob Chan Sereivuth, the Pursat province prosecutor, said that he did not use a gun to threaten the reporters as it was alleged. He said that the trio did not wear their reporter’s badges, and they were taking pictures of his car in secret. Om Chan Dara, president of the friends of reporters organization, said that if the threat was real, this would constitute a serious violation on the reporters right. Om Chan Dara said that reporters, like any ordinary citizens, have the right to sue and complaint to defend their rights.
