Oh good, now we got more lands
to produce agriculture goods and
getting paid for the woods at the
same time instead of paying
someone to clear the woods to make
more land for us, very clever,
indeed!

Khmer Young said...

So ignorant, the cause of cutting trees devastated the farmers by tide, land slide, land erosion, draught and the way of living of those bribal ethnic group....

More than this, the money from selling those trees flow into only those few so-called high rank officials' pocket...

The owner of these treasurers are still poor and sufferings...

No problem, all that will be solved
by draining the excess water into
the irrigation canal.

Hun Sen said at the last Graduation Ceremony': "The Khmer Rouge with the Thais had robbed all gems in Pailin and Bolang. The International communities didn't react". But they reacted against us who had destroyed nothing".
In fact he didn't mention about the forests which has gone due the activities of his family like AH HUNTO, AH OKNHA HUN CHOCH His Phkay Chor and other corrupt officials.
Chan Sarun has a Big hotel complex(City Villa)in Phnom Penh. Where he got the money to built it?
Sao Sokha, one o the Phkay Chor and Chief of National FIFA, has more than 10 villas in Phnom Penh.
Ty Sokun, this Young DG is nephew of Chan Sarun. It's a pure nepotism at all levels.
Cambodia has become a State controlled by some former KR, Maffiosis and Cuprid tycoons.

Will our oil meet with the same fate as that of our forests?

Oh for sure Mr Lao Mong Hay. I can predict that oil revenue will not go to the state's coffers, but to the Swiss bank accounts of those high ranking officials, related through familial, business tie to PM Hun Sen. It all comes down from connection with Hun Sen, whether direct or indirect.

It is there, the corruption. But with all power controlled by one person, there is nothing that can be done, esp. when China is knocking on the door, willing to provide unconditional loans whenever Cambodia needs.

Globe Witness' report regarding the harvesting of wood products within Cambodia has found its way into the U.S. Newsweek... This report highlighted the insidious crime committed by a body of people within the government against the Cambodian environment, which many rural and tribal Khmers relied upon for their livelihoods. This crime comitted by the people whom professed to protect Cambodia is tantamount, as indicated by the newsweek report and that of Gobal Witness, to a crime against the Khmer people.

Newsweek is a popular U.S. national magazine read widely within the U.S. and around the world. In light of the pressure from various environmental quarter from within the U.S. and the world upon Mr. Bush, the story of Cambodia elite stripping Cambodia of its natural resouce is part and parcel of the environmentalists' assault on world governments to pay more attention to the environmental degradation of recent time.

In Cambodia, environmental degradation by itself is not as important,if one is to infer from these reports, as the method that leads to the degradation of that environment (forest). Gobal Witness highlighted the method as very selfish and hideous (because of how such a method has been institutionalized.)

Gobal Witness is assaulting the Cambodian government, and the Cambodian government has rightly countered by questioning the credibility of Gobal Witness'.

Yet...the Cambodian government, especially Mr. Hun Sen and those associated to him and whom the report implicated is hard pressed to produce evidences to counter Gobal Witness' evidences within the report. As it stands, Goble Witness' evidences of the nefarious activities of Mr. Hun Sen's people are very damaging.

...The report did not mention Mr. Chea Sim nor the people from the Nortwest region. It appears that the operation involved only people from the Hun Sen clique.
