The significance of the border demarcation and landmark planting between Vietnam and Cambodia should be introduced to all Party organisations, administrative agencies and the public in a bid to affirm the correctness and the need of the work.

Dao Duy Quat, Vice Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, made the remark at a conference held in Hanoi on June 26 for the country's northern provinces on the importance of the Vietnam-Cambodia border demarcation.

The ratification and implementation of a supplementary treaty on the Vietnam-Cambodia border demarcation signed on Oct. 10, 2005, helped restart a 20 year-delayed plan of landmark plantation to build a border line of peace, stability, cooperation and development.

The two countries through their leaders’ meetings showed a resolve to complete the landmark plantation in 2008.

Vietnam and Cambodia share 1,137 km of borderline running through 10 provinces of Vietnam and 9 provinces of Cambodia. The two countries so far have inaugurated the landmark No. 171 at the Moc Bai-Ba Vet border gate area, and defined eight markers in Dak Lak province and two in Kon Tim province. They have also begun the construction of three international border gates in Tay Ninh, Kien Giang and Binh Phuoc provinces.

More than 370 landmarks on the whole common borderline between the two countries are expected to be built, including about 100 markers in 2007.
