The Cambodia Independent Teachers’ Association (CITA) asked the minister of education, youth and sports (MOEYS) to investigate an alleged case of corruption in the selection of candidates to enter in the training program for junior high school teachers.
In a letter dated 16 July sent to Kol Pheng, the MOEYS minister, Rong Chhun, CITA president, said that educational leaders in a number of provinces – including Kandal, Kompong Cham, Svay Rieng, etc… - ordered teachers to pay between $300 to $500 so that they can enter into the training program.
In this letter, Rong Chhun called this action a severe injustice for teachers who do not have money to pay the bribe, or who do not acquaintances. Therefore, Rong Chhun suggested that in order to establish justice, the selection must be done based on an exam.
Regarding this accusation made by Rong Chhun, RFA could not obtain clarification from Kol Pheng yet.
