Nuon Chea, former Brother No. 2 of the Democratic Kampuchea (KRouge) regime, said that, right now, he is more concerned about his health than he is about the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. Nuon Chea said that his health is deteriorating because his feet are swollen, and his shoulders and hands hurt. Nuon Chea said that death is approaching him. During an interview with The Cambodia Daily, he said: “I know that I will die in the future. I will not live long. I know about my death because my health is deteriorating every day.” Nuon Chea admitted that since the death of Pol Pot in 1998, he is the highest ranking Khmer Rouge leader still alive. He said: “I am the number 2 of the regime, and I must bear responsibility for whatever happened during this regime. However, I must tell people as to why people died during that period.”
