The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee announced after its annual meeting in New Zealand last week that it has delayed the registration of Preah Vihear temple onto the UNESCO world heritage list to next year, as Cambodia needs to resolve some issues, local media reported today.
The World Heritage Committee needs to consider the Thai demand for clear border markings at the site, and asked the two nations to settle their common problems first, suggesting that Cambodia can again make the request next year, said Cambodian daily newspaper the Rasmei Kampuchea.
Cambodian government spokesman and Information Minister Khieu Kanharith confirmed last Friday the postponement of the Cambodia's request for the temple to be listed as a world heritage site, agreeing that a few technical issues remain to be solved.
However, the minister stressed that the delay was not related to Thailand.
"Thailand didn't oppose the Cambodia's request to register Preah Vihear temple, but we have a few technical problems such as new buildings, radio towers, stalls and drainage (system)," said Kanharith.
Preah Vihear temple, situated along the Cambodian-Thai border, has long been a cause of dispute between the two Kingdoms, with the International Justice Court in 1962 ruling against Thailand's sovereignty claim.
A part of the site is now on Thai soil. Cambodia and Thailand are discussing a joint plan to manage the area.

If the fucken Thaicong always bothering Cambodia and how Cambodia can get anything done!
These fucken Thaicong need to stop complaining of Cambodian sovereignty over Preah Vihea and these same fucken Thaicong need to respect the World Court decision!
All the fucken Thaicong need to fuck off and Preah Vihea will always belong to Khmer people!
If the fucken Thaicong don't like the World Court decision and they can always send their Jet fighters and let see if these jet fighters can escape the surface to air missiles!
When we plant the demarcation post, we should planted from Bankcock on. Reclaimed Khmer ancestral land!
5:21Pm Are you sure Cambodia have any surface to air missile left in the country? Hun xen do not dare to have one at home, afraid that his sun would shout down his copter!
I wish my Cambodian brothers would have the wisdom to talk politely and respect their "enemies"... Insulting neighbouring countries only aggravates the conflict and show them that we cannot control our temper. It makes us look like stupid, violent, uneducated and primitive people, which we aren't. As one used to say : "Love you enemy. That's the best way to make him angry".
In the 21st Century, we can't just reclaim ancestral land which was lost due to wars 500 years ago, at the time the ancestral Khmer Empire collapsed due to its failing irrigation system and growing population. If so, some people from pre-angkorian times, 1000 or 2000 years ago, could claim that Khmer warriors have been grabbing their land, and so on... It's a never-ending story...
The decision of the International Court of Justice from 1962, for those who haven't read it, is very clear, and has been internationally accepted. There is no reason for Cambodians to worry about this issue and Thailand is not contesting this, they just wish the demarkation was officially shown by a series of boundary markers, as it should be done for every country of the world to avoid further conflicts.
Why hasn't it be done yet? Possibly because Cambodians and Thais are not able to communicate, listen to each other, and collaborate to solve this issue which lasted for the last 45 years... Also because of corruption, impunity, lack of political will, incompetence to map the exact boundary, presence of the most dangerous minefields in Cambodia, inaccessibility of the Dangrek mountains, and the fact that it's a bloody long way for Cambodian people of Phnom Penh in charge of boundary demarkation to go... They didn't pay their ministerial position to work in the field, did they? ;-)
So... Let's stop complaining, get a shovel, and start digging to put these concrete posts at the places defined in 1962. As easy as that.
Don't forget to use the GPS to verify the location down to the meter!
To 1:48AM!
You are just another Thaicong slave and you need to shut the fuck up! If you are afraid of the Thaicong so much and why you don’t lay down and die!
