The Centre for Health Protection is investigating the suspected food poisoning of 10 people who fell ill after eating in Cambodia on August 7.

The man and nine women, aged 22 to 59, were holidaying in the country when they developed abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea after a dinner buffet.

On their return to Hong Kong, two sought treatment at Tuen Mun and Prince of Wales Hospitals while another consulted a private doctor. All are in stable condition and no hospitalisation was required.

All the food services need to be regulated for the safety of the population!

that's not going to happen for a long time. Alot of ordinary Cambodian believe that fresh is better. During my visit, my wife's grandfather asked me. "which taste better, chickens in Cambodia, which has just been freshly killed, or frozen chicken in America that sits there for days". I didn't want to insult the old, guy, but I say the freshly killed chicken probably taste better. What he doesn't understand is that fresh doesn't necessarily mean safe.

Food in America has to pass inspection with FDA approval. If one case was found where for instance broccoli was found to have e-coli, the entire broccoli product are put off the market, until further investigation. In Cambodia, if a fish is contaminated and kill a local farmer, people go on eating that fish. There's no rule and regulation. Plus there's not alot of health expert that can tell what symptoms led to the man's demise.
