Cambodia is held hostage by Thailand because of border disputes

August 03, 2007
Border issues stall ADB Thai electricity project

An Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded plan to supply Thai electricity through Banteay Meanchey province's Poipet commune to Siem Reap province has reportedly stalled, with an Electricity du Cambodge (EDC) official citing a border demarcation dispute as the cause, Cambodian-language newspaper the Koh Santepheap reported on Friday.

Electricity poles along National Road 6 from Siem Reap to the Poipet border crossing have already been planted, "but we have not connected to the Thai electric power network yet," said Sem Korsen, Siem Reap Provincial Electricity Director.

Sem Korsen failed to disclose the specific causes of the negative results, just saying it is a top level issue.

Meanwhile, EDC Distribution Director Chea Sinhel told the paper that the problem is at a national level.

"This is a political issue between the countries. It is related to the border issue (white area), which has not been resolved," Sinhel said, adding that "this is the reason electric polls cannot be constructed through the border to connect with Thai electricity network."

Last week, Cambodian journalists who attended a forum in Thailand's Sraskeo province's Aranh district asked Thai government advisors about the issue but they just responded that it would be discussed with their government.

No source has so far been able to advise when the network will come online, while Siem Reap residents are complaining of high costs and frequent outages.

The Asian Development Bank has lent 8 million U.S. dollars to Cambodia to establish the grid to deal with power shortages in the northwestern provinces of the country in bid to boost the growth of tourism, agriculture and industry.

HUN SEN is sitting on the chair for 30 years with power. Why can't he build a good power plant to support the need of growing business in Cambodia? Come on, stop depend on these greedy neighbors.

Please, read our history
MAP OF KAMPUCHEA KROM

http://www.khmerkromngo.org/map/map.htm
Kampuchea Krom is rich in history and civilized culture before the Vietnamese settlers arrived on the northern border with Champa Kingdom.

Kampuchea Krom is the oldest land in Southeast Asia.

The Khmers called this part of the Khmer Empire [Present day Kingdom of Cambodia], Kampuchea Krom. Kampuchea Krom is also known as Lower Cambodia, Mekong Delta, or Cochin China. The Khmer populations of this beautiful landscapes share the same race, religion, national language, culture, custom, tradition, and great history as the Khmers in Cambodia. Kampuchea Krom is slightly smaller in size than her motherland, Kingdom of Cambodia.

KAMPUCHEA KROM AT A GLANCE

Kampuchea Krom is composed of 68,965 square kilometers, 21 provinces and municipalities, two large islands - Koh Trol and Koh Tralach, 171 districts, 1,368 communes, 14,778 villages, more than 13 million Khmers, more than 567 Buddhist pagodas and more than 20,000 Theravada Buddhist monks.

99% of population are Theravada Buddhists.

The Khmer kings, governments, regimes and citizens have never relinquish (give up) this part of their country to foreigners.

Kampuchea Krom has been under an ongoing colonial control since her division from motherland, Cambodia.

June 4, 1949 is the date that the Khmer Kampuchea Krom citizens grieve. The Khmer Kampuchea Krom people have organized Buddhist Service annually to honor the fallen Khmer Buddhist monks and heroes, who sacrified their lives for Kampuchea Krom and Theravada Buddhism.

Colonial France divided, ceded and transferred Kampuchea Krom to colonial Vietnam on this date. The freedom of Khmer Kampuchea Krom has been mostly stripped by the Vietnamese ruling regimes and governments since. The French colonial adminstration committed injustice upon the more than 13 million Khmers of this beautiful fertile land.

Justice remains elusive for Cambodia, Kampuchea Krom and her citizens.

And...the struggle to regain freedom and human right by the Khmers in Kampuchea Krom continues as long as injustice commits by the ruling Vietnamese regime(s) has not produced a fruitful result.

WOW, this is good history to know. Thank you whoever post this information. This information really teach us alot. For me, I always consider Khmer Krom lands as part of Cambodia from day one since I know about our history. All Koun Khmer please take this information seriously. Under Sihaknouk always sent his delegation to PARIS to claim this part of Cambodia all the time. But the YOUN knew this, they have to pull us into war so they can keep dragging the time so our younger generation don't think of it any more. But they are wrong, most Khmer younger generation always claim that lands as it was to be part of Cambodia.Koun Khmer please wake up and unite we will stand. We will win if united. Do not lost hope. I have read about Greece that they were under Turkish for 400 years and they managed to free themself. Turkish probably have 60millions and Greece probably the same population as us Khmer 10millions and they can do it. So, with the population nowaday I believe strongly that we can also do it. Bravo Khmer!! Brave Den Dey Khmer! Jayo! Den Dey Sovannaphum!!

It's not even an average human life time yet. I heard my dad used to mention about this to me. We have to get it back guys no matter how long it would take. Teach your kids about this, it's what I'm going to do with my kids. If we don't succeed in our generation, we pass it on to the next generations to fight for it. This will go on and on. We can't expect the puppet Hun Sen''s government to educate Khmer youth about KK, so we have to do it through the fabrique of our families.

Thanks for the history that posted here on KI-Media, I learned more from it.
