Cambodia will host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) youth football championship from August 19 to September 1 at the Olympic stadium in Phnom Penh, an official said on Thursday.
The Cambodian government decided to host this event to show that they have peace, stability and ability to organize a football match of regional level, Ok Saphan, a senior information official of the Football Federation of Cambodia, told Xinhua.
It is the first time for Cambodia to organize this kind of sport event, he added.
The youth players under 17 years from 10 countries, including Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia and East Timor will join the tournament, he said, adding that Philippines would not join this event and we do not know why.
