The old National Assembly (NA) building located next the royal palace was turned over to the administration by the government. A ceremony marking this occasion was held in the afternoon of 03 August 2007. The ceremony was participated by Leng Peng Long, the NA secretary-general who represented the NA, and Seng Lim, the standing secretary of state from the council of ministers who represented the government. Leng Peng Long said that the old NA building was first erected in 1947 and it served the legislative branch under all regimes for over 60 years already. Leng Peng Long added that now, with the availability of the new NA building, we turn over the old NA building to the government. How the government wants to provide this building to any other institution, it’s up to the government. Seng Lim did not say anything about whether this building will be turned over to any specific institution. However, CPP MP Chiem Yeap used to say that after the building is turned over to the government, the latter will give it the Supreme Court.
