A senior military policeman has been killed in an intense gunfight in the capital, Phnom Penh.
At least five gunmen, including an Interior Ministry police officer, attacked Phnom Penh's deputy Military Police chief, Reth Nika, firing into his car after a high-speed chase.
Phnom Penh police chief, Touch Naruth, told AFP news agency that the 27-year-old fled his vehicle for a nearby temple after his car got stuck in traffic.
His assailants hunted him down and shot him dead within the temple grounds.
One of the attackers also died - from wounds suffered during the attack.
Touch Naruth says it is unclear why the killing took place.
Two people are under arrest and a hunt is continuing for more members of the group of assassins.

How barbaric it is to murder in a Buddhist monastery! And we claim to be Buddhist!
The Buddhist clergy needs to double its efforts to incalcate the teaching of Buddha in our hearts and minds. Let them forget about building temples or monkhouses.
LAO Mong Hay, Hong Kong
Barbaric indeed. Barbaric men in uniform chasing, trying to kill one another. This is law enforcement? In Cambodia, the only law are held by those with a gun, and those surrounding Hun Sen. I guess these "officers" decides to play judge and executioner. Judges in Cambodia are not respected, thus people mostly take the law into their own hands.
The biggest and the most vicious wins in Cambodia. The law of animal still applies; and that the mentality of everyone starting from Hun Sen down.
We claim to be buddhish, Dr. Loa but they are not!
They are excommunis and criminal!Do not confuse that why we lost many time since 1975, 1987, and now!
10:11PM not from Hun Sen down it from HUn Sen's side!
Indeed
Religion's in Cambodia is buddhist.
But we rule by the criminals and yuon's puppet and not really educate people. Most of them are ex-khmer rouge leaders or commandants. We can start by Hun Sen, Heng Samrin, Chea Sim, Men Sam Orn (blood drinker), Uk Rabun, etc.
And we have Tep Vong. He sometimes ate at night and drink wine (srah).
Old proverb say << Knowledge come from learning and wealth come from hard and stemina works! >>
New proverb is << Knowledge come from buying diploma and wealth come from bribery !>>
Ask the Rascal monks Tep Vong and Lon Nget to pray for Nika's soul not to join late Monk Bunthoeun, killed by Hok Lundy-Heng BunHeang's agents some year ago.
Buddist or not Buddhist,I don't care. What I care is the rule of law. The Killing, the general corruption, the nepoism,..... occur in the Context of the NON-Rule of law.
Let's not spread hate in times of frustration and sadness. Respect the deaths. Think of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ghandi, which used non-violence to their advantages. Some of us live through 1975 - 1979, Cambodia's worst nightmare. Let's be the prisoners of the educational systems for a few more years and use that knowledge in a positive way to assist our Mother-Country, CAMBODIA/KHMER/KAMPUCHEA/ANGKOR People. Out of sight, but not of mind. We have to stick together. Love each one of you. Best Regards...
