High ranking government officials, monks, and opposition MPs are reacting differently to the political situation in Burma which is now embroiled wit unrest, and the use of violence against monks causing deaths and the arrest of several hundreds monks during the government attack on demonstrators protesting against the Myanmar regime.

Khieu Kanharith, government spokesman, gave this comment to RFA on Thursday: “We want the Burmese government to avoid using violence, there should be discussions held between all sides of the society again, that would be better.”

Tep Vong, the Buddhist supreme patriarch of Cambodia, said that this is an altogether different issue: “I have no reaction, this is their issue, my issues are mine. The basic attributes of my noble nature are: compassion, pity, joy at other’s happiness, and sincerity…

Venerable Yoeung Sin, President of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom Monks Association in Cambodia, said in reaction to this issue that he is condemning the use of force on Burmese monks.

Venerable Yoeung Sin said: “These savage acts must be condemned by the world and by those who love peace and society. These are savage actions taken by people who are dictators.”

Opposition SRP MP Son Chhay said in reaction to this issue that this is the time for the Cambodian government to show its position.

Son Chhay said: “First, our government should express its position, which party does it side with? Does the (Cambodian) government support the democrats or is it supporting the dictators? This is an issue that the (Cambodian) government can no longer maintain.”

Recently, according to international news, TV, and radio media in English, a large demonstration is occurring in Burma, and more than 100,000 of Burmese monks and laypersons have participated in this mass demonstration to oppose the Myanmar government.

This demonstration was met by violent attacks from the government troops, and 4 people died, over 100 were injured, and more than 200 monks were arrested during the government retaliation.

In 1988, Burma also saw a mass demonstration once already, but that demonstration was quelled with violence causing more than 3,000 deaths from government force shootings.

In Cambodia, there were also government retaliations against demonstration in 1998. The Cambodian demonstration at that time was led by opposition leader Sam Rainsy, and it was also participated by Cambodian monks. The demonstrators were protesting the results of the election which was conducted in July 1998.

If the Burmese people back down like Cambodian, the government will have a upper hand and the suffering will be more intense. Stand your ground. It is a do or die time. Don't back down! Let Cambodia be your example. Cambodian gave up, afraid, didn't stand their ground, as result they suffer many more years.

Don't be ridiculous. Monks neither have any obligation to any citizen wellbeing nor do they run the country. Therefore, we can't allowed them to rule our country and they can't do anything as they please. Furthermore, they don't have any type of immunity in the country. Thus, If they ever go overboard, we must pushed them back to where they belong with whatever mean necessary, and that is the government duty to the people. Thus, I stand behind the Burmese Government.

The difference is monks have no fear but the government that fronted with armed men with fear is clear.

Tep Vong is a selfish imbecile and a disgrace monkey in robe to Buddhism.

Fear or no fear makes no difference. If they disturbed the peace or creating scenery that stop traffic, effecting merchant businesses or economy, the government have to step in to keep them from violating the rights of others. Just think: How do you like it if you lost business for weeks because your customers can't get to your store because of idiots.

Khieu Kanharith is known as a stinky mouth Cambodian government representative. He is a flip-flopper. Don't believe whatever he said. In fact similar action was taken by the Cambodian government against Sam Rainsy protesters in 1998. If he and his government are democratic supporters, they would not use brutal action against democracy lovers then.

5:24 PM, you are right about this gov't's controlling tool momk. Here is what he said:

“I have no reaction, this is their issue, my issues are mine. The basic attributes of my noble nature are: compassion, pity, joy at other’s happiness, and sincerity…”

Is he stupid or political? "their issues, my issues" and then "my noble nature are compassion, pity, joy at others' happiness?" Sounds down right dishonest or imbecile, in deed.

If the monks demonstrate on the streets, it means the country has issue. The people need help.

Tep Vong is a Khmer Rouge idiot. Why did'nt he have any opinions. Isn't a monk suppose to preach peace and nonviolence? Tep Vong is an illiterated puppet monk installed by the Hun Sen government.
Those those who agree with the Burma's government to use violent to crack the demonstrators go live in Burma and see how you like it, living under the regime.

AH TEP VONG made the comment about what is happening in Burma is so selfish of him!

"This is my problem and that is their problem?!" ahhahahha!

AH TEP VONG only lives for himself and not for Buddhism or Cambodian people! This mother fucker doesn’t even have a mentality of a leader and yet he is put in the position of a head monk to oversee thousand and thousand Cambodian Buddhist people!

To keep AH TEP VONG any longer will only bring more shame to Cambodian Buddhism! Step down you monkey!

Nope, we are very proud of Tep Vong, for doing his job and not doing someone else job like those Monk-eys in South Vietnam and Burma.

Hell, if we were to allow anyone to do whatever they pleased, soon we will have a cyclo driver doing surgery on patients and shits.
