Taiwanese involved in drug trafficking sentenced to 25-year in jail

Two Taiwanese nationals, who were involved in drug trafficking and who were arrested by the police, were sentenced by the Phnom Penh municipal court on 26 September. Each of them was handed a 25-year jail sentence. The pair, a man and a woman, concealed about 2 kilos of heroin inside their running shoes while trying to board a plane to Kwangchow, China. The pair were arrested by the police on 02 September 2006, at the Phnom Penh International Airport when they were about to board a plane from Phnom Penh to Kwangchow. The search of their bodies yielded heroin powder hidden in their running shoes. The pair are: 31-year-old male Lin Chu Yin, and 34-year-old female Fung Yu Ching. After questioning by the court, the court handed them a 25-year jail sentence to each of the two Taiwanese, and they were also issued a 50 million riels ($12,500) fine for illegal drug trafficking.
