The Phnom Penh Post reported this week that, at the Poipet international gate, there is a tightening in the border crossing which created irritation among tourists, and Cambodian porters must wait for hours before being able to cross into Thailand.

A new sign was posted showing the Thai immigration rules which stipulate that all tourists visiting Thailand must have an airline ticket to prove that they will depart Thailand within 30 days before a 30-day visa to Thailand is issued to them.

Chaturont Chhaiyakam, the deputy secretary of the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh said that the tightening in the search (at the border) was put into application for several years already, and that it has only been used recently, especially along land borders.

Chaturont Chhaiyakam said that in the past, there were violations of the 30-day visa issued by the Thai authority to tourists.

I thought this law was in effective since 4/01/07. They gives me a hard time try to cross the border by asking airline ticket etc...that I was not aware of at that time. I hope in Sovannaphoum airport staff will notify the tourist as well to hold on to their airline tickets (both entrance and exit).

"Cambodia has already signed such agreements with China, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, said Chhoum Eak, secretary of state in the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation."

What kind of a retroactive Thaicong law is this? So much for stupid Cambodian officials for cooperating with the Thaicong on other issues such tourism! The fucken Thaicong want to play hardball and creating all kinds of hardship for Cambodian people all the time!

I say fuck all cooperation with the Thaicong and life will be a lot easier for tourists who want to come to Cambodia!

That is a stupid law that I have ever seen while tourists travel into thailand by ROAD but need airticket. It's stupid law and I think they do this to discriminate poor tourists from neighboring countries. Normally, tourists travel by air have return tickets. I think Cambodian people should think and reduce to go into thailand as much as we can in order to avoid impacts of law on our nation.
