A Japanese weapons management organization will burn thousands of small arms collected from various provinces in Cambodia in Battambang province this month, said a press release received here on Monday.
The Japanese Assistance Team for Small Arms Management in Cambodia (JSAC) said in the release that around 7,000 small arms will be burned under the "flame of peace" program on Sept. 19.
The weapons were mostly surrendered by Battambang residents, though others were collected from Kompong Thom, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, and Oddar Meanchey provinces, according to the press release.
The weapons destruction is the 12th and final ceremony to take place with support from JSAC as the Japanese organization is due to complete its weapons collection and destruction program this month.
Battambang district governors will be asked to fulfill their duty to keep their province peaceful, safe, and weapon-free during a ceremony organized to mark the completion of JSAC support.
JSAC was established by the Japan International Cooperation System (JICS) in attempt to implement the Peace Building and Comprehensive Small Arms Management Program in Cambodia. Since the beginning of its operations in Cambodia, JSAC has amassed 28,602 weapons.

The Japanese should conduct the same disarmenmentfor VN so that VN has less weapons to invade its smaller neighbors.
Guns don’t kill people! It is people who kill people!
I am sicken tired of the Jap who are going around burning and destroying guns and weapons in Cambodia and soon Cambodian people won't have any weapons left to protect themselves from the Thaicong or the Vietcong or even AH HUN SEN Vietcong puppet government aggression!
All these weapons that the Jap is destroying were paid for by Cambodian people during the cold war in billion and billion of dollars!
I wonder why the Jap is so busy destroying weapons in Cambodia when Cambodian people are the most oppressed people under the Vietcong puppet government! What about Vietname and I don't see these Jap go over there and destroying the Vietcong weapons and beside there are over 10 million Khmer Krom people who are still the victim of the Vietcong government oppression!
I say this to all those smart Cambodian people! Please don't destroy your guns and keep it for protection! Cambodian people should not be fool by the Jap to think that AH HUN SEN Vietcong puppet government will protect them! Just look at Monk Tim Sakhorn case and AH HUN SEN allowed the Vietcong special agents to kidnap him from Cambodia and put him in the Vietcong jail in Vietname and tell me what kind of protection is this from AH HUN SEN Vietcong puppet government for dirt poor helpless Cambodian people?
As far as I am concerned these Jap are very bias and very prejudice toward oppressed Cambodian people in working for AH HUN SEN Vietcong puppet government and the Vietcong government in Hanoi!
This isn’t the "flame of peace" like the Jap claimed! It is the flame of double standard applying on dirt poor oppressed Cambodian people! Cambodian people will continue to live as an oppressed people for many more years to come under AH HUN SEN Vietcong puppet government and the Vietcong government and thank to the Jap the work well done!
