US State Department Heads To Mekong Delta

September 25th, 2007
Khmer Krom Network

Alarming reports from inside Kampuchea-Krom have revealed heightened security as Vietnamese police attempt to stop indigenous Khmer Krom people from speaking about the real situation as representatives of the US State Department heads toward the region.

According to the report, on September 25, Vietnamese authorities visited Cho-Eng temple, Tri ton District and Sa-Kee-Mees, Tinh Bien District of An Giang province and threatened residents not say anything about the religious violations.

Since February 2007, there have been alarming reports of religious violations committed by the Vietnamese government against Khmer Krom Buddhist monks for the mere act of conducting a peaceful protest.

At least five Khmer Buddhist monks are serving imprisonment while others have been forced to defrock and are under heavy surveillance by the local authorities.

The Vietnamese authorities have arrested protestors for “attempting to disturb the Vietnamese society.”

The US State Department will be visiting the Mekong Delta to investigate the allegations of religious violation and human rights oppression reported by the Khmers Kampuchea-Krom Federation.

It is expected that the issue of Tim Sakhorn will be a priority in this investigation.

When we hear good news like this, we feel a huge relief for our people in Kampuchea Krom. Don't forget that Vietnamese have a ton of tricks to dodge criticism from the major power countries. When they(US representatives)there, the Vietnamese will change the situation from intimidating and persecuting Khmer Krom people to a calm and normal as if nothing has happened. This is what I believe. As soon as the State Department representatives complete their observation about the situation of Khmer Krom people who have been persecuted daily by Vietnamese authority, they will leave and report back to Washington D.C. If they see things irregularity, the United States will apply the pressure on Vietnamese government. But unlikely that it will happen. Thieves are very smart to get ahead to avoid apprehension.
So, we will see if things will go our way. Khmer Krom people should not be feared. They must report the real problems that happened to them to the US State Department while it's there to help them. Otherwise Khmer's suffering will continue indefinitely.

Oh, give me a break, the US was in Vietnam since the 50's fighting communism. If they haven't noticed anything then, they ain't gonna find anything new now.

Uncle SAM needs to speak softly and carry a big stick when dealing with the Vietcong!

They did -- I mean with megatons after megatons of bombs in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, but vietcongs don't budge. So, what is your point, 3:20?

Hey 3:20AM if the Viet really strong ,why The viet release monk Tim Sakhon, and the viet try to kiss USA ass so bad?

Anonymous said...

Maybe, but highly unlikely. The commies are a suckers to those who confess their violation. Burma, China, and Laos are the same way, dude. Thus, if you ever get caught violating an ordinance or accused of a crime, just confess, that is if you don't want too much hassle up your sleeve.

Thank you Uncle SAM!

If the Vietnamese are lying about the release of monk Tim Sakhorn, it means that they might already killed him.
