Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian writers gathered at their first official meeting in Hanoi on September 6 and reached an agreement to set up a literature award for friendship.

The first Mekong River Literature Prize award ceremony will be held on July 10 for 12 writers, including five from Vietnam, three from Laos and four from Cambodia.

The meeting, that draws 45 writers from the three countries, received messages of congratulations from Prime Ministers Hun Sen and Bouson Buphavane of Cambodia and Laos, respectively.

The participants also called for an increase in translations of their literature works and exchanges of visits by writers from the three countries to write about the other countries and share experiences.

On the sideline of the meeting, writers will go sight-seeing in the Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh province, the Tam Dao mountain resort in Vinh Phuc province and visit the late President Ho Chi Minh’s home and office.

They will also meet senior Party and State officials and join gatherings with Vietnamese colleagues and readers.
