Phnom Penh - The murder of a mother and her sleeping children may have been politically motivated although authorities were yet to locate suspects or confirm a motive, police said Monday. Kampong Tralach police chief Kit Dara said by telephone police were investigating all avenues after Chom Phart, 42, and her two children Khym Vand, 16, and Khym Tola, 7, died instantly when a grenade was lobbed through an open window into the room where they were sleeping at around midnight on Saturday.
He confirmed Phart was an activist for the dominant Cambodian People's Party but declined to give further details, saying the case was still under investigation.
"We are also looking at the possibility that it was some sort of revenge," he said.
The attack took place in Kampot province, about 150 kilometres south of the capital.
Cambodia is gearing up for national elections in mid-2008. Elections in the country have been habitually accompanied by a rise in political attacks and violence since the war-torn country returned to a system of democratic voting in 1993.

we need to get past this barbaric methods of competition. We have forgotten that our struggle for a our voices to be heard, which is the result of our votes, is the struggle to better our lives and country and our fellow Khmer.
When we see senseless murder like this, what is purpose of this? Isn't this defeat our purpose of political activism?
Remember, we all want the same thing, a better Cambodia. Whether each of us see CPP, FUNC or other party as the solution, we in this regard looking for the same result. A better condition for Cambodia. So why are we out here creating this horrible condition for our ownself like this?
Please my Khmer people, think about your action and its meaning. See how you are destroying your own work by not thinking for ourselves and our brothers.

Very sad. A mother and children? I'm wondering CPP did it to make other opponents look suspicious.
I agreed with 7:09PM 100% for the killing. CPP did this style of killings in the past by using grenades and then frame the opposition party for political revenge. Bad tactic for CPP. So Be careful if you work for CPP, Hun Sen has crocodile pond at his compound waiting for eating the victim.
This reminded me of the 1997 grenades attack on the opposition party! This is such a coward act to kill woman and children in the name of political party affiliation!

OMG, more victims of Ah evil Khmer-Yuons. No one is safe, CPP, HRP, SRP, ..., are on the same boat.
Just round up all of Ah Toothless Troublemakers within the few square kilometer and send them back to south Vietnam for prosecution.
