(SGT-HCMC) The three Indochina countries of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia are now geared up for developing a single destination as their tourism ministers on Friday inked an agreement to this effect in HCMC.
In a joint declaration on tourism cooperation, the top tourism officials agreed to connect efforts and resources to promote the region as a single tourism destination. The three countries will jointly stage promotions activities, develop common tourism products, sharing expertise on development of tourism skills, and making a list of potential projects to call for investment.
The three ministers encouraged efforts to make transport easier for citizens and international tourists from the three countries by upgrading tourism-related infrastructure, improving international border checkpoints, and opening air routes linking the region’s world heritage sites. They also called for the application of border pass cards for people on border provinces between the three countries.
“This is the first time we have reached the joint declaration, which is an effort to strengthen regional integration and collaboration to make the region a competitive and attractive destination,” said Hoang Tuan Anh, Vietnam’s minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
He said the three ministries would exchange information on tourism, culture, and sport events in each country and promote them overseas.
Anh said one of the first activities should be collaboration in making a joint video clip to promote tourism images of the three. It will be broadcast on television channels of the region, he said.
Somphong Mongkhonvilay, minister of Laos National Tourism Administration, said that in the past, each country had to promote its own tourism products individually but in the future, the three countries would have common products, images, and linked websites for effective promotion. He attached significance to the agreement.
“The declaration will have the three countries boosting the development of the tourism industry,” he said.
He said after the second Senior Tourism Officials meeting, which will be held in the coming months in Cambodia, his country will invite all officials to Laos for discussing more details.
“We don’t want cooperation on paper. We will try our best to materialize what has been agreed,” he said.
* The three-day International Travel Expo HCMC 2007, or ITE 2007, ended yesterday in better-than-expected success, especially in terms of promotion, an official said.
The event witnessed a great number of business meetings between international buyers and local sellers, as well as the heightened public awareness on what Vietnam has on offer, said La Quoc Khanh, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Tourism.
He said that travel buyers and sellers had 3,000 meetings and exchanges among themselves to discuss business, which will help open further business windows for cooperation.
The third annual fair has attracted 180 local and foreign exhibitors and 101 foreign buyers. During the fair, the exhibitors who were travel companies, destination and service providers organized 62 programs to promote destinations and products to both buyers and customers.
Khanh said the organizer planned to organize the fourth ITE on September 12-14, 2008. “We plan to carry out more activities to expand “The three countries, one destination theme and make next fair bigger than ITE 2007,” he said.

Yep, and another step closer to Mee Yeak Keney nightmare!!!
The entrance go to hell
And loving it!
Vietnam tries to spill own humans over Cambodia and Lao. Them three is focusing on single destination which means "to swallow Cambodia & Lao"
If the Viet and the Laos can't compete with Cambodia in tourism and they will have to join Cambodia to steal tourists from Cambodia!
The concept of joining with the Viet is nothing new! For example, King Sihanouk had joined the Vietcong and look where he is now and Khmer people curse him endlessly and Cambodia had become a mess!
Cambodia under AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave is a real sucker to allow the Viet and the Laos to use Cambodia to attract tourists!
Cambodia as a unique place in the world is gone for tourist’s destination and Cambodia will be just another Laos or Vietname!
Observation will be closely watched to see if Cambodia gain any more tourists from this so called “Indochina Single Destination” and if the Laos and the Viet gain more tourists then Cambodia is in for sucker because Cambodia chose to mingle in the crowd and not stand out among the crowd!
Bullshit, Khmer ancient temple is not confined to just SiamReap. There are some in Thailand, Loas, and Vietnam also, not to mention similar architect in Burma as well. This is a good idea because it allows tourists to enjoy Khmer architect in various parts of the region.
To 12:45AM!
Fool! If that is the case why the Laos and Viet don’t used those Khmer ancient temples to attract more tourist and why the fuck they have to go through Cambodia for?
You know too damn well that Cambodia landmark Angkor Wat is one of the worlds famous and who wouldn't want to see it!
It seems that you are the only stupid fool who is willing to claim that those ancient Khmer landmarks in Laos and Viet are Khmer but to the Laos and the Viet never say it is Khmer and they said it is their and they will use it to make money if they want to!
Cambodia under AH HUN SEN Vietcong puppet always invites trouble for Cambodia!
I'm v8,I'd thinks in along run,its a win win for the Viet, people you see! they have about ninty millions plust people to feed, and they are hungery,to us we have about fourhteens millions people.. you do the math?to me,i would worry about them just yet.just think what will happen in the next 15,year from now?their people are going to pooring in to our land, and craete job for there own people and stilling client from our land.what we need is to build a good strong relations with the westerner fist.because when they come they staying a month or two and they leave.the viet, people when they come they will not leave that's the different.
9:55, I wasn't talking about a huge temple like Ankor Watt, but tiny one. They are in poor shape right now, and we need the money to restore them before they rotten away, not to mention taking away some of the key information about our ancestors along with it, you idiot.
Stop arguing you idiot! just give your comment to the article. people is waiting to read. damn it!
Well, I don't have much to add other than to say that this is a good idea. It allows tourists to learn about Khmer artifacts that were scattered all over the ancient Khmer Empire, and at the same time enjoy various old types of architectures among the countries ... . And if you are a fan of history, this is one of the best regions to visit to see live old houses, shacks, gadget and apparatus that is still being used for various purposes. However, you must hurry because the region is evolving fast and all these goodies will not be here forever.
