PHNOM PENH, Cambodia: A Cambodian cow was taken into police custody for causing traffic accidents that resulted in the deaths of at least six people this year, a police official said Tuesday.
The cow's owner could also face a six-month prison term under a new traffic law that holds people responsible for accidents caused by their animals, said Pin Doman, a police chief on the outskirts of Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh.
The white, 1.5-meter (5-foot) tall cow was standing in the middle of a main road Monday night when a 66-year-old motorcyclist crashed into the animal and died. Most Cambodian roads are dark at night.
Earlier this year, the same cow was responsible for another traffic accident that resulted in the death of five people and several injuries, when a truck veered off the road and crashed as its driver tried to avoid the animal.
Pin Doman said he was holding the cow at his police station.
He said the cow's owner had been warned four times in the past to keep his cattle leashed and could face prison time if relatives of those who died initiate legal proceedings.

It is really funny. The coruption CCP not just punish the poeple even animal is also guilty
Hey, if they going to put the cow to sleep, I want the dead meat. I hope they shoot in the head instead of leathal injection.
People living along the National Roads must be educated concerning how their domesticated animals could cause deadly accidents on the roads. Cow is not the only animal causing the accidents. In fact, cows cause fewer accidents because they're slow moving, except when they are startled by something.
Other domesticated animals to watch out for on the roads include dog, chicken, buffalo, pig, duck, and cat. I have a friend whose car ran over a small pig crossing the road some time ago. He was stopped by the police and forced to pay $50 compensation to the pig owner. Had it been a big pig his car would have overturned and he may have been killed or injured. However, that was not their understanding on what the public roads are used for.
People also do stupid things on the road, including running across the road without looking, driving on the wrong side of the road just because there is more shade on that side, playing football on the roadside, or doing a sharp u-turn without checking to see what are coming from behind, among others.
Such stupidity has got to stop in order to save more lives from death or ruin.
