I love democracy the one in which I see a very limit role of the royal family in the government. Democracy, if doing it appropriately I am deeply convinced, will give Cambodia a fair chance to modernize itself, to elevate its people from poverty by bringing forth individuals' talent and potential to the fullest, and to successfully compete in the global markets.
It is in this spirit, I am compelled to write a few words in Dr. Lao Mong Hay's defense.
In recent weeks, the name of Dr. Lao Mong Hay ha tossed around a quite a bit. Personally, I do not know the scholar. However, I admire the British-educated PhD for his profundity of democracy who has been a straight shooter and a prolific political commentator.
Is Dr. Lao Mong Hay a government critic?
For a casual political observer, he may sound and look likes a government critic. To me, Dr. Lao Mong Hay is more than just a government critic; he is unequivocally an advocate for democracy - and a noble one too, the one that does not want to be the country's prime minister.
What distinguishes between government critic and an advocate?
Government critics criticize the government for political gains while an advocate such as Dr. Lao Mong Hay does it for a great cause. I truly convinced that it does not matter who controls the government, as long as they are not operating under the rule of law, they can expect to hear from the advocate.
Although Dr. Lao Mong Hay is relentless in his criticism of the government and its conducts, he has never been a demagogue. He always sticks to the facts and principle of democracy.
If any thing at all, he is a man of integrity. The term "integrity" in plain language means walking the talk. To this thinking, if one does not walk the talk, one simply does not have integrity.
To Dr. Lao Mong Hay, senior researcher at the Asian Human Rights Commission in Hong Kong, when Cambodia and the leaders claimed that they pursuing democracy, he simply holds and judges Cambodia and its government by a democratic standard.
Dr. Lao Mong Hay is without a doubt is a guardian of Cambodian democracy, and I am very grateful.

Show us some proof and we will guard it with our lives. Otherwise, we don't need no guardian for it and tell Dr. Lao to find a new career, fair?
Who do you guys think about comments posted by 12:13am? I think 12:13am is a moron, a very typical members of CPP family.
Maybe you're right that I am a moron, and maybe you're not, but the only way we can tell for sure is for you to prove it. Isn't that right? If so, get your ass moving!
Its good to have someone like Dr.Lao who speak up against stupidity and not someone like hun sen, his regime, and hun sen stupid wife.
what comes around, will goes around. The CPP is another version of pol pot. Their day will come, just like the KRT trial going on now. I understand it not going as well as it should. But atleast it out there. And shame on all these people and people like them.
vietcong, vietgak
Well, we love the Hun Sen's Stupidity because it make Cambodia one of the fastest growing countries in the world, but we certainly don't need Dr. Loa's Righteousness preaching that make millions poor people suffer. Do you catch my drift?
Why is it so hard to find proof of democracy lifting poor country out of poverty, if it really is that good?
Could there be flaws in the theory? Could it be just a good theory that is unrealistic? I mean there are many good theories that is useless too, and you will find them sitting in the closet in the intellectual properties keepers offices around the globe.
Therefore, it can't be that good if we have a hell of a time finding proof, can it? So why are we using innocent lives as a Ginny pigs. Is that all that khmer people is to us, a Ginny pigs for experimentation?
Having said the above, is the Burmese government really a monster when they fight to keep their people from being used as Ginny pigs like Khmer people?
What about Laos? and Vietnam? and China? Have these people all gone banana?
Dr. Lao Mong Hay is an honorable and respectable man. You may say whatever you want and all you want, but it won't change anything. We believe Dr. Hay.
Sihaknuk and Hun Sen regime has never like people like ,Dr. Lao Mong Hay,but Cambodia and Cambodian need the kind of Dr. Lo Mong Hay but not Hun Sen and Sihaknuk . The proverb has said THE CHEATER HAS NEVER WIN but what the bad luck all the ways Cambodia has it opposite THE CHEATERS,THE TRAITORS THE CAMBODIA TREASON always win,but it goes around and comes around, sound like the traitors, the cheaters and Cambodia treason seeing them selves in the glory of the sun set .
Long Live Dr. Lao Mong Hay!
11:33, I didn't said anything about Dr. Lao being not a respectable person or honorable person. All I am say is we don't need no Democracy Guardian. We don't see no benefit for it at present time, sometime is the future is very likely. Thus, Dr. should do something else for now, but not a useless Democracy Guardian, Comprendre?
Cambodia wishes to have as many Dr. Lao as we can get! Some Cambodian like Dr. Lao's is a rare breed!
No problemo, so long none of them doesn't try to sell us something like Democracy that don't work.
Lao Mong Hay, PhD vs. Hun Sen,PhD. Are the 2 any different?
Dr Lao Mon Hay is the Khmer hero. He cares about the justice and livelihood for the Cambodian people. He got a mind of the 21st century.
Can't you tell the difference, 9:28?
Maybe you ought to go to PM house, then go to Dr. House. Maybe that will ring your bell.
Yeah, but we don't want no 21st century mind, 10:34. What we want is 23rd century mind. Stop give us thing that become obsolete so quick, will ya? The Khmer people deserves better.
There are some people that are ignorant, self inflated, conceeded idoit from a wrong side of the track the one right above. Just ignore it. Poor little thing! most of the people here seem to always able to put it on a defensive side.
Losers!
Hmm ... where the hell is Dr. Lao all this time? He usually never missed this type of discussion before. I bet he's still busy searching for proof in Google, Yahoo, ... , to justify his useless career as a democracy guardian. Oh give it up, Dr. Lao.
Just watch when Dr. Lao come back, he'll justified to us his useless career as democracy guardian as part of Buddhism or something like that.
Oh! that a typical Cambodian? Has never learn how to appreciate or pushing the others to climb the fences ,they like to drag down the good one like Lo Mong Hay but they like to push up people Like Sihaknuk and Hun Sen,well any way the criminal always with the criminal, the idiot always with??????
We like you Dr, Lo
Hey, I don't see no drag down here. I just try to point out the truth to Dr. Lao. And if I am mistaken, I like to know where my flaw is. What is so irrational about that?
he'll justified useless career as democracy guardian. I personally do not see any nuisances comment from Dr.Lo but from yourself. Is it irritated you ? If I offended you I would like to tell you that learn to be common sense person, don't be jealous with some one they better than us ,no any foreigners kill us except our own people ,why the Cambodia have never gone to no where beside this sad thing, they like to trim the tree to keep them the same of their level no one are higher, this is sihaknuk and Hun Sen Ideal ,they do not want some one better than them, because they afraid of loosing their job or popularity's NOT THE PROGRESSIVE IDEA.
Dr, Lo you are the Best
Well then, quote what I said that irritated you, and I will stop.
