Former provincial governor sentenced to 2-year jail

The Kampot provincial court issued its verdict on 04 October, sentencing Puth Chandarith, the former Kampot provincial governor, to 2-year of jail starting from the day of his arrest, and a fine of 10 million riels (~$2,500). The Kampot provincial court held a hearing in this case on 30 September, but the verdict was not handed down immediately. It was not until the morning of 04 October that the court issued its official verdict. Puth Chandarith was charged on 16 July 20007 of appropriating state forest for himself. Counting from the day of his arrest, Puth Chandarith has only 6 month of jail time left before he will be released.
