Government Plans Housing Project for the Disabled [-Mu Sochua: People in a similar housing project in 2004 "were evicted after the election"]

The government has set aside $1.4 million for the construction of housing for the disabled, in a move that critics say is a ploy to garner votes in upcoming national elections.

The project aims to help 240 families in Kien Svay district, Kandal province, just outside Phnom Penh.

Prime Minister Hun Sen announced the plans at a tree-planting ceremony Monday.

Hun Sen, who himself has a glass eye, said the houses would be constructed of iron and cement, at a cost of $1,738 each.

The project would serve as a model for other projects across the country, to be developed through contributions from Cambodia's wealthy, he said.

Former Minister of Women's Affairs and Sam Rainsy Party deputy secretary-general Mu Sochua said the government's the project was a rouse ahead of elections.

"We appeal to the people to think about the government's work for 15 years," she said. "Please think about each project."

People in a similar housing project in 2004 "were evicted after the election," she said.

Damn, everything that the government does for the people around this time is accused as an attempt to gain vote for the election. Should the government halt all their plans to develop the country around the election time or something?

This sounds like a bunch of selfish and childish people to me.

All money to build handicap housing are not transparent...all money are from those dirty business tycoons...all those money are national laundering budget....this is the practice and habit of Mafia State....he do this to manipulate people...and it is the popular politics of Hun Sen to gain votes....but it is a lie...how about those homeless that they plundered their land....

Hun Sen starts to intimidate people about war to gain his votes...now all powers are in Hun Sen's hand...war or peace caused by only Hun Sen...these 3 guys are crazy with royal ranking...ignorant...

Nope, Hun Sen did not intimidate anyone with war. What he stated was if Cambodia got new leader, they might cause problem with neighbors and create war that destroy everything we build so far, and I can easily happened too.

Hun Sen may be well-intentioned but once again nobody is helping him to do the right thing.

Disabled people should be given the choice of where and how they live. They should be given the money to build their own place where they want and with who they want as neighbours - not herded in to ghettoes for others with the same bad luck of being disabled!

Who is going to wage war for the 21 century is fool. Your assumption is far beyond reality and baseless.

Now, we don't have the war of guns, but we have the war of economic and diplomacy...

But look at Hun Sen, he is selling his country through the very weak diplomacy and trading with neigboring country.

He only worries about the lasting power, he doesn't worry about the survival of his nation.

What does Cambodia need to remove Hun Sen and Sihanouk despots without a drop of blood?

Probably ASEAN can help Cambodia to do like Thailand for removing the democratic elected government to the King's Junta government?

Ke Kim Yan -phkai chor, Meas Sophea-phkai kaun monn, Pol Saroeun-phkai niaingkol, need new voluteer?

Chouteav Sochua got a point, that has been done since Sihanouk back in 1955 election.

No, it is not baseless, 2:03. Once, the pro-westerners toke over, many businesses will jump ship to avoid high taxes. This will caused chaos. Then you will find a huge influx of Christians that threat our good Cham people and turned them into suicide bombers. On top of that, you find an huge influx of American in Cambodia raping people left and right and cause the Commie Laos, Vietnam, and China to drives them out with AK47, grenade launcher, bazooka... Got the picture, 2:03?
