Rights organizations from the Asia-Pacific signed a new agreement in Phnom Penh Tuesday to curb human trafficking across the region.
Migrant Forum in Asia Regional Coordinator William Gois told VOA Khmer the goal of the agreement was to encourage increased cooperation and understanding between non-governmental agencies and regional governments in the fight against human trafficking.
"There has to be a new kind of solidarity, a new kind of cooperation and a new kind of understanding at the state level and at the NGO level as well," he said.
Ya Navuth, director for the migrant advocacy group Caram Asia, said the groups sought "to protect migrants, both in the recipient countries and the countries that send them."
Cambodia is a major nexus for the human and drug smuggling across Asia.
