The visit trip to the European Community by Sam Rainsy, the leader of Cambodia’s largest opposition party, has lasted 8-day already counting this Saturday.

Sam Rainsy is actively seeking supporting help from overseas Cambodians, and from foreign officials so that he can obtain good results for his party at the upcoming 2008 general election. Sam Rainsy gave a short interview to RFA, while he was traveling on a train from Paris, France, to meet various Cambodian communities.

Mayarith (RFA): How is your visit to seek support for your party?

Sam Rainsy (SR): Right now, I am traveling to French provinces after (visiting) Paris. There are 2 major cities in France: Lyon and Marseilles. Right now, I am traveling to Marseilles, I will meet with our compatriots in Marseilles, which is located along the southern coast of France. I will go to Lyon which is located on the highest mountain region in Europe this Sunday, after that I will return back to Paris. On Wednesday, I will travel to Oslo, Norway, where I will meet with Norwegian government officials, and friends who are Norwegian Members of Parliament. From Norway, I will travel to Stockholm, Sweden, where I will meet Swedish MPs and government representatives also.

RFA: How about your visit to France, whom among the French government officials have you met?

SR: I met with French MP Chantal Brunel from the ruling (UMP) party. She was recently nominated as President of the France-Cambodia Friendship Group formed by French MPs from all political parties who love Cambodia, and they have formed this France-Cambodia Friendship Group. Chantal Brumel was recently nominated to head this Friendship Group.

RFA: What are the outcomes for Cambodia through all your meeting visits?

SR: As outcome (to these meetings), they (foreign officials) are very interested in Cambodia. Therefore, I am confident that they will follow up and help, first of all, push for a correct election in Cambodia. Secondly, they will push for a rapid adoption of the anti-corruption law. Thirdly, they will push the KR Tribunal to move forward faster also. So the three issues of interest to them are: (1) next year’s election, (2) anti-corruption law, and (3) the KR Tribunal.

I won't support anyone who goes around the world to talk bad about his own people and to ask foreigners to help meddle in Cambodia's affairs.

Anonymous said...

Excellent point, that is exactly how our region got screwed.

Folks, you knew what exactly Rainsy discussed at those meetings? How come you guys came to a quick conclusion? He might advocate for more funds for ECCC and a better management there. He might seek legal assistance from France to help Cambodia quickly review the long-awaited anti-corruption law. Or he might appeal for more assistance to stengthen NEC. We never know exactly. Cambodia needs a man like him who talks and foreigners listen.

Good work Mayarith!! Please keep us posted.

Please note that at this stage both Viet and Camb government could not survive without foreign'aids.

So what else do you think they are better of ?

I think they have a habit of abusing human lives.

Anonymous said...

4:24 it's much more likely that he is using the trip to appeal to western governments to cut aid to cambodia. without foreign aid the government could fall apart, but so will the cambodian people. everybody in cambodia will have to starve for a while (maybe a couple years or so) until he gains power and foreign aid resumes. it's all politics. these people are more concerned about their own interests than the cambodian people's welfare.

I would support SR if he could stop the western to cut fund fr cambodia for 90% of the donation goes to fucking blind-idiot hun sen and his criminal crony but nt poor cambodian people.

But Rainsy never has such intention for what he has done he always appeal to donors to use donation with strong condition and presure so that the evil hun sen can do something good as a leader which would make the donation distribution is just and for all.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, but that is because he received heavy criticism from the public for asking economic sanction against cambodia 3 or 4 ago. Also the guy even went as far as asking Japan to cut all aids to Cambodia but Japan just reject his plead at that time.

I'm v8,Khmer people have a bad habit about criticizing their own people,Never proud of their own people of doing anythings!we needed to get rid of the jealousy.we need to learn how to help our self.not just dependding on gift gift, that would make us lazy and dumb.when are we going to wake up!and realize what are we doing wrong?we need to thinks positive.

Anonymous said...

Open the door to the westerner to invest more, that will help Cambodian-people.Begging for help will not look good.because sooner or later people will look down on you.

Anonymous said...

Well, our door is wide open for all, but until our unemployment fell below 8% or so for about a few years, we'll continued to require international aids.

Anonymous said...

Just pass the damn corruption law! So Cambodian authorities can trace down those hundred and million of dollars flow out of Cambodia into the foreign banks every years conducted by corrupted Cambodian officials!

Cambodian economy can't move all the unemployment in Cambodia! When Cambodian economy have more money flowing out then more money flowing in to stimulate all the economic activities otherwise Cambodia will become another African nation for many years to come!

Cambodia must have command economy, control economy, and free economy to succeed in the world of cutthroat competition!

Anonymous said...

Well, to pass the Anti-Corruption law or any law, we need parliamentarians. And where are they now? Don't tell me you don't know where they are. I think by the time they can get together to pass this law, thousand of Khmers would have been buried in their graves.

Yes, but to have more money flowing out we need businesses and we need workers to make products for export.

And to get businesses we need stability. And Cambodia supposed to be the most stable country in the region, but many fools from the west had turned it into a wild wild west.

Anonymous said...

Hahaha...if it's a wild wild west, you should have been dead by now 3:13AM...(*Blowing Smith&Wesson barrel*)

bull shit...f communist brain, don't blame the west, without the west u guys can not being a human, u guys just a buches of monkey.

No biggy, dude, I know where you're coming from.

someone up there got it right. Opening our door more will help Cambodia, but begging makes us ashame. How can you be happy to live on foreign aid?

Our current goverment have no shame, they beg every year. Sam Rainsy is doing a good job exploring different European connections and beneficial relationships that in the future will help us get off our begging.

Good Job SR. We need Foreign and western support of Cambodia! Look at Vietnam, the entire world is supporting them even though they say so in public, all the business i booming and second only to china in asia rigth now in terms of growth.

Why is that? because their leaders know how to build friendship and reach out to powerful people.

Anonymous said...

*correction..
i meant, even though they don't go say so in public. Sometimes they pretend to criticize Vn. They have very good relationship with the world because of their smart foreign relationship leaders who don't like to sit around all day waiting for beg moneys to spend on a new mercedes.

Anonymous said...

Well, we wouldn't need to beg anyone if the foreigner who destroyed our country would restored what they have destroyed.

When a khmer leader (SR) goes out to the western countries transparently for the democratic movement course in Cambodia we have stupid khmer accusing him of having bad intention for the country. But when Hun Sen covertly and frequently visiting Hanoi for a lecture from his master the stupid khmer, such as 3:16PM keeps silent. Well all I can say is that the stupid khmer you can be Viet slave for the rest of your lives and your kids as well. It's what you want.
Because the leader of the stupid khmer, ie Ah Kwak Hun Sen can't see the big picture.

Anonymous said...

Hey Hanoi is not foreigner, they are neighbor and brothers. Don't you know millions of khmers live in Vietnam? Duh!

Anonymous said...

I just wonder how many Cambodian lives Mr. Sam Rainsy have to wast in the name of his fake Democracy ?

Anonymous said...

Well, between directly wasted and indirectly wasted from his stupid democracy, I would say thousands.

Anonymous said...

I can see your intestines folding.

7:21AM – u r either youn or those who benefit from the regime or both.

7:38AM and 7:49AM – the same as the above and more here – u r those republican and anti-royalist. Let me tell you where my stance is – I'm for a free Khmer that is free from foreign influences whether far or near, big or small fuck them all. I don't give a fuck about the republic or the royalists. But I can see who's killing the Cambodians and who helping not like some morons here. Hun Sen killed those who took part in the pro-demonstrators in 98, many students and common people who took part disappeared without trace up till now.

Anonymous said...

Some of you that support Hun Sen and his regime; you must be vietcong hochiminh. How long should Ah Hun Sen stays in power? He leads the country go no where except smaller and smaller. Why are Khmer people are so stupid like the rest of you that believe Ah Hun Sen is better to lead the country? You're so dumb that's why your country and your people are looked down by your neighbors, Thaicong and Vietcong because you don't have a strong leader like Sam Rainsy.

Even the Khmer monks in Long Beach such as Monk Men Say or Kong Chheang are CPP members. Some monks who comes to America are Hun Sen agents; otherwise, Hun Sen won't send the real monks to the US. These kinds of monks are the traitors of Khmer people.

The only Khmer live in Vietname is the oppressed Khmer Krom people!
The Viet isn’t brother or good neighbor to Cambodia!

Don't even trying to accuse Mr. Sam Rainsy of promoting fake democracy in Cambodia! Any form of democracy in Cambodia will be tested by anti-corruption law which so far under AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave system and no corrupted Vietcong slave officials has yet to be charged for corruption!

Anonymous said...

Nope, not all Ah Khmer-Yuons in Vietnam are not oppressed, only troublemakers, just like the US. The rest became great Yuon citizens and still a very close brothers to Cambodia. In addition, the CPP has more Ah Khmer-Yuon members then all other parties.

There is no need to accuse a fake democracy that is already fake, failing, and getting people kill for no purpose.

Anonymous said...

Helping Khmer is always appreciated! Even a dollar... Actually the democracy parties, such as Funcinpec and SRP, ask money from the donors... And then the money use indirectly to feed the CPP. I mean indirectly, for example, people who worked in the ministry of rural development mostly are members of CPP. They use the name of Funcinpec, which supposed to control this ministry, in fact, at the bottom, it's all CPP. This ministry received a lots of money from the government. Because donor countries spot this ministry more than others. The UNDP, Licadho, FAO..etc work closely with this ministry.

7:38Am and 8:53AM - So you should blame your Uncle Ho for leading the millions of our beloved Viet to their deaths in fighting the French and the American.

I'm v8,to some of the commentor whos criticizing the government Khmer Youn-slave nobody is.. its you who go around talks like that it is you! who sending the mesage to the enemy, and make all of us look bad.for example if your father were a drunkers and useless, and you go around talks trash about your dad?when at the same time you are acting one like him!dose that make you a better person then him?the answer is NO!a true kid would keep his mouth shut.instead he would go to school work hard help his mom, brother and sister out showing a positive way,and in the end his father will realize his mistake.and that's a true to all Khmer people.remember Khmer people a mesage is "positive word."

Anonymous said...

WTF? Uncle Ho never lead anyone to France or America. Stop dreaming, you idiot!

Anonymous said...

Yes my man. just keep on working hard for khmer people. you will win election 2008.

Anonymous said...

Maybe, but not in the 2008's, 3008's yes.

Hi all,

I think Hun Sen and his closed group are influent by not only Vietnam, but by China and Korea as well. Most of them still have the half communist/capitalist way of running the country. The royal families, on the other hand, of course, should not be involved in Cambodia politics anymore. But, some of them are good people though. Sam Rainsy was educated in France, whom we all hate because it gave our land to the Catholic King of South Vietnam and did not develop our country. And we hate the average Viets. Of course their leaders should be hated. The bad thing about him is that he named his party after him. To me, it is not a democratic party. The way he talks is not so much different from the other Cambodia leaders. He is so extreme like the republicans in the US. In fact, the US got us into trouble in the 60s and made Thai rich. How many people died? None of these leaders can be good leaders for Cambodia.

I don't think anyone from other parties can win over Hun Sen in the nearest future because the US and China are behind him and want to get Cambodia resources. Local parties have no chance if the big guys like China or US do support. Money is talk of the day in every democratic country. All we can do is to contain him bit by bit. The only way that Hun Sen can leave the office is the pressure from his own party. I believe that there are some people in CPP that are honest and have the ability to lead Cambodia to a better country.

But, for now, hey if you can beat them, join them and think about your next move later. It is a American way, isn't it?

Just a for thought!

Cheers,

Me and my Cambodia

Sounds fair enough to me.

Thanx!

Sam Rainsy is our real Churchill and De Gaulle Khmer. We must stand with him. I live in France, and the little thing I can help our country again imperialist YUON and the traitors HUN XEN and the royal Khmer family is to send money to Samrainsyparty.
I hope Khmer oversea will do the same and at the same time will suggest their family to vote for Samrainsy Party.

Khmer denh YUON

Anonymous said...

Send money to SamRainsyParty, 11:26? hahaha, LOL, hahaha....

I would send it directly to our needies instead. The SRP is seriously lacking concrete experiences and practical knowledges to run the country, and they will turned Cambodia into a nightmare again for everyone. Texbook shits don't cut it, dude. We have access to that also.
