According to people living in Svay Chek district, and Oddar Meanchey provincial police, at least one Cambodian citizen was killed and two were seriously injured after they were shot by the Thai black-clad soldiers in Thailand.

A source indicated that the shooting took place at 11:00 PM on 03 October, when a group of 7 Cambodian tried to cross the border illegally into Thailand’s Sakeaw province, in order to smuggle cars back to sell in Cambodia.

The anonymous source said: “They took people to buy cars from Thailand, when they were about 200-meter (from the Cambodian border?), the Thai soldiers … were waiting to shoot them.”

The same source indicated that after the shooting by the Thai border soldiers based in that area, the group of 6 Cambodians, including two who were injured, started to run in every direction to return back to Cambodia. They left behind the body of 48-year-old Kom, the dead man. “Yes, we lost him (Kom), it’s already this late and the body cannot be found yet,” the source said.

Chan Kosal, the deputy commissioner of Banteay Meanchey province, said that the shooting took place inside Thailand, about 3-kilometer from the border. He added that the illegal border crossing into Thailand by Cambodian people, is usually done along corridors, located between the Chamcar Kor gate in Svay Chek district, and the O’Bey Choan gate in O’Chrov district.

Chan Kosal said: “We called in Chum Chhat and Duch Rin in for questioning. According to the information provided by the culprits who are also victims, based on all the information, they said that (one of the smugglers) was shot and killed.”

According to Cambodian police, the majority of the 7 Cambodians who illegally crossed into Thailand, live in Domnak Ko-koh village, Svay Chek commune, Svay Chek district. The 7 are: 31-year-old Chum Chhat, 42-year-old Duch Rin, 31-year-old Dos, 28-year-old Loeung, 31-year-old Kom who shot and killed by the Thai soldiers, and 36-year-old Choeuy from Kok Prech village, Kok Romiest commune, Thmar Puok district.

Currently, the police is investigation the case, and is cooperating in order to find the body of the Cambodian citizen who was shot and killed.

There is nothing new here; this is just a typical border issue that existed everywhere; none is exempt from this, and it wont be the last tragic either.

But one important thing we should note here is that people will stake their live just to seek a better living for their family. Accordingly, the only solution is for us to get our economy up to those of the Thai, but regretfully, I don't see that will happened anytime soon.

Viet go in to Cambodia taking away all the jobs cambodian has to seek others job out side of it country and lost the lives there .
OMG what kind of Hun Kvang doing in Cambodia?

Noope, most viets don't come to cambodia to work for a living. They can do that in Vietnam and get better salary for it. Most Viet came here on a business venture or some sort to better their live, and they have created many jobs for Khmer people in effect.

Ah Hun Sen should prevent Cambodian lives from time to time coz you are priminister must be respond on People health and life. and also protect the border too.
You shouldn''t protect your power only.
You must look to all corners of Cambodia.
Cambodian have to trial you of what you acted without responsibility.

These Thai soldiers treat Cambodian lives like animals. These poor smugglers have become a live target for shooting practices. Even if they were not armed the Thai soldiers would just plant some guns on them to justify their inhuman action.

The Cambodian poor are being persecuted on both sides of the border. The poverty reduction strategy is in the making, and one more life has just been added to the improvement indicator.

Even the Viet businessmen in Cambodia joke that "we take woods from Cambodia and we bring toothpicks back; we take rubber from Cambodia and we bring condoms back." That's the win-win strategy that the Viets have given to Hun Sen to implement: they take $100 from Cambodia and they bring back $1. Is that supposed to be good for Cambodia?

Many cambodians are poors. So , as they do not have jobs, they try something to get some money.
As those cambodians had escape the killing field ,it is unfair to kill them like that : they must be judged or put in jail.

Oh yeah, and how's that different Ah Khmer-US taking our Sport shoes, clothing wear,..., for 10-15 cents and sell in the US for hundreds of dollars, huh?

Anyhow, right now we don't care. We just want jobs, jobs, and more jobs. Stop trying to misdirect our goal and make us all suffer here.

Why do they have to shoot? Should Cambodians soldiers shoot every Thai people entering Cambodia illegally?

The Thai have been known to kill Cambodians for years for small offenses. This is an act of babaric, not a friendly neighbor. If the Cambodian government do nothing about it the lives of Cambodian will continue to be lost this way by the babaric Thai soldiers. What are the Thais saying about this?

5:54PM,

You're idiot Khmer who live in Srok Khmer to serve your master, Hun Sen.

Don't blame Khmer_US, we don't know those factories, idiots.

American owns those businesses with the Chinese.

Do you want work in Cambodia? May be you're one of the elite gangster in Srok Khmer.

You want more jobs, ask Ah Hun Sen and don't blame us.

And don't say "our spot shoes, clothing wear,...," It's not Yours, idiot.

Thai has a history to kill unarmed Khmer people with no mercy. Should we bring this matter to UN? Don't count on Hun Sen to solve this issue.

When Ah Kwak is always Ah Kwak, No matter what he tries to do.

Though the shooting was uncalled for and certainly excessive, those who play with fire shouldn't be surprised if they get burned.

WE NEED TO ATTACT THEM BACK AS MONK DID WITH THEIR JUNTA. THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE FOR US. YOU SHOULD LOOK AT A FILM CALL "BRAVE HEART". IT IS TIME FOR HUN SEN TO WAKE UP AND GET MORE VOTES. HE CAN DO IT IF WANT TOO.

"Why do they have to shoot? Should Cambodians soldiers shoot every Thai people entering Cambodia illegally?"

Great questions, 9:01, but let me answer the 2nd question first: the reason that there have not been any thai victim is because 1) there is not too many illegal thai who come to cambodia. 2) and those that came here has the money to bribe the border guard.

As for why does the thai has to shoot illegal Khmer, there are many reasons: 1) they don't have the money to bribe the border guard. 2) the Thai is under pressure to keep drug smuggling down, and when people sneak in the area, it look like they are dangerous drug dealer, especially when they learn that now we are capable of fabricating meth. 3) Is the border guard is just fustrated with people who ignore the warning. 4) Border guard education level is very low. ... . And because of the above reasons, there is no way of pin point the cause of the shooting without further investigation.

Also before you come down too hard on border guard, try to put yourself in their shoe. Frankly, I can tell you that the job can be very spooky at time.

9:47, I said I don't care about how little money we make from any jobs. Man, there are people who jump over bridges because they have lost all hope to be useful to someone. I am sure they would mind job that paid as little a 50 cents a day and they can't even find that. To me, this is a serious human rights violation. And I hold all those who painted bad image of Cambodia and deterred jobs from our good citizens. You got that?

correction: I hold all those who painted bad image of Cambodia to deterred jobs from our good citizens accountable.

Definitely, we got to pass law to keep people out the border area, except for between sunrise and sunset in a designated trading area or check point.

This is not good because it created tension between neighboring countries as evidently shown here.
