With primary and secondary schools opening their doors for another season, poor students find themselves in an annual bind. Without money to proffer their underpaid teachers, they fear they will be flunked, or beaten.
Students at public schools unofficially subsidize their teachers's salaries according to the educational levels. In primary school, the students pay between 500 to 1,000 riel.
"When I have no money, I don't dare go to school," second-grader Poch Srey told VOA Khmer Monday. "I am afraid the teacher will hit me."
Cambodian Independent Teachers Association President Rong Chhun said teachers had no choice but to take money from students, given their low salaries, which do not always come on time.
"The stomach situation forces them," he said. "Even when the government increases [the salary] 20 percent in 2008, it will not be able to sustain life."

This is a serious issue when teachers extort money. We cannot allowed our students to learn such moral from our Educational institution. Therefore it must be stopped immediately for the sake of our future.
This what Ah Hun Sen wanted ,when our citizen,kids ignorance they can be in their power for ever,what kind of people thinking backward from the others,please do some change ,there are more Cambodian that not so stupid like akavak makhang.

It doesn't matter who in charge the education department. They all need to step down and all teachers who extort moneys from students must be removed, period.
The school is fuck up!

The learning curriculum is also fuck up!
The learning environment exposed the students to fear and retribution which make the school even more such a fuck up place!
The end result Cambodia will become one fuck up country! When I think about it and it is not such a bad idea to have another round of bloody revolution!

Do you know why Cambodians live largely in Long Beach? Because Cal State Long Beach was the first to accept International students from Cambodia. We all believe that the education system in Cambodia is a failure. Lets all find a way for free education in Cambodia. I say use the oil money! Affordable College education and for the children and young adults in High School to Elementary School.

I try to Google the world "slum" in Long Beach, CA and I can't seem to find it anywhere unless I am missing something here!
