Nobel laureate: Cambodia on right track of economic development PHNOM PENH, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Nobel economist Joseph E. Stiglitz of the United States said here on Wednesday that Cambodia is walking forward on the right track of economic development.
He made the remarks while holding talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at his house in Kandal province, said Ieng Sophalet, senior assistant to the premier.
Stiglitz highly appreciated the Cambodian government for leading the country with economic development and political stability and contributed to poverty reduction in the globalization era, said the assistant.
Stiglitz said that his visit is trying to know about the top priorities on the government's agenda and what problems it has to solve in the kingdom's development process. He also vowed to help Cambodia with his extensive experience.
Hun Sen told Stiglitz that Cambodia has to seek development of human resources, transportation and electricity, and solve the imbalance of economic growth, according to the assistant.
Hun Sen also requested Stiglitz to continue his talks with the Supreme Council of Cambodian Economy.
According to official figures, Cambodia has scored macro economic stability in the past decade and the average economic growth rate from 2004 to 2006 reached 11 percent. Eight percent increase rate is forecast for 2007 and seven percent for 2008.

Yes, there are lot of people who have yet to benenit from the booming economy, but everyone will ultimately be delivered from extreme poverty. I guarantee it.

Stiglitz got a free trip (with 5-star treatment) from the Supreme Council on the Cambodian Economy. Was he going to say that the Cambodian economy is vulnerable and beset with serious problems, e.g. corruption? Of course not, he is going to continue as a well-paid consultant with more free trips to come.
When you enter the Tiger Den you are not supposed to say the truth in front of the Tiger Boss. You have to praise him, flatter him, and lick his butt deep in the hole so that he may be pleased and give you a Khmer ID card to live and abuse children in Cambodia.
Otherwise, a crocodile farm is just a short distance away, and those Hun Sen crocodiles may find a white man's meat a refreshing change from the usual Khmer meat of those who disappeared without a trace over the years.

At least, Stiglitz gave us hope that bright future is near and possible. Indeed, he was diplomatic when saying this to PM, but we can guess that problems could be worked out. Tha's why he associated himself with us.
But, my poor khmers could not understand the reality and give anybody a respect, thus can't buy any good idea. It is a big risk of 'stupidity' or 'lgong to pouch'. They are too subjective, starting their negative arguments by barking without knowing what they are talking about.
