Samdach Dek Cho Hun Sen, the prime minister of Cambodia, declared on Tuesday that candidates to the position of prime minister in 2008 should have a single nationality only and not dual nationality.
During a speech given at a diploma distribution for teaching students at the Education Institute in Phnom Penh, Hun Sen said: “Cambodian politicians should put an end to dual nationality, they are not brave at all, in particular those PM candidates should renounce one nationality if they are strong.”
Hun Sen asked whether the PM candidates would renounce the dual nationality or not. If they are not willing to, how could anybody trust them? They work in Cambodia, do business in Cambodia, but pay taxes in France instead. Hun Sen added that he is also concerned because currently, one of his grandchild was born in the US, and he is also a US citizen, but Hun Sen does not know what to do to have his grandchild renounce the US citizenship. The reason Hun Sen is concerned is if the US is at war, his grandchild could be drafted in the US army. Furthermore, if Hun Sen’s grandchild does business in Cambodia, but he does not pay tax in the US, he could also be arrested by the US.
Hun Sen’s statement regarding the nationality issue met with strong reaction from an opposition leader. Kem Sokha, HRP president told VOA on Tuesday evening that: “the nationality issue is not important, what is important is the person.” Kem Sokha stressed: “There are some leaders who indeed only hold one nationality, but they destroy the nation, they are dictatorial, and they are involved in corruption. All these actions are not good at all.” Kem Sokha added: “What’s important is not the nationality issue, the main issue is the term limit for the prime minister to one or two mandates at most, this is a more relevant issue.”
Muth Chantha, NRP spokesman, said that Hun Sen’s declaration was political, and the constitution of Cambodia does not stipulate that Cambodian people who hold another foreign nationality cannot participate in politics.
Opposition party leader Sam Rainsy said that even though he holds dual nationality, he is a Cambodian citizen who serves the Cambodian interests and he does not serve any foreign interests.
Sam Rainsy and Prince Ranariddh both hold the French citizenship.

Yep, Cambodia should only be run by Khmer people, not foreigners.
yes, Cambodia must be run by the cambodian who has both eyes and vision esp. the Cambodian that is not a slave to youn like atmil hun sen.
Yeah Cambodia shall not run by Vietnam slave either, very dangerous. And we all will be ChampaII or Laos
Yes ,the opposition can have many nationalites as he please. Just shut the fuck up and poke your remaining eye and be done with it.
Nope, Cambodia is for Khmer people only, not foreigners. If foreigner oppositions wanted to lead any country the should do it in the US, AU, UK, ..., or France, not here.
Exhibition of anger and frustration and jealousy are part of this forum; however, it is critically imperative that we want to ensure that the foreigner (s) cannot be allowed to run Cambodia. Of course, your ideas or suggestions are (sometime) welcome.
Fair enough, 4:17.
What is the acronym for "MOI" again (one might ask)?
In case you DO NOT know. "MOI" is the acronym for "Move Over Insects." Of course, you get the message! That is, insects (foreigners) are not welcome to run CAMBODIA. Thus, move over, insects!
This is the case of Hun Sen; he would bring things that are not important to the nation to talk about as long as he can benefit from it. This is peanut brain.
There are a whole lot of pressing issues he could have done such corruption, PM term limit, immigration, price of gasoline and electricity, land grabbing and land management and a ton more... why he chose not bring it up?
MOI = More Of Insanity!
Nope, nothing is important when your country is under foreign rulers. We will sacrificed our life again to drive them out of our country, even if it means the country will continued to suffer from it. Don't you see? We don't want no foreigner occupation here.
No.... MOI means Man of Idoit! hahhhaaa. just like atmil hun sen.
This guy just say any thing and change it in the minut after he get out from the toilet!
No brain!!!
Wrong, MOI means Man Of Intelligences.
Until now no body knows how many nationalities Samdech Si Cho Hun sen has. My thinking is perhaps at least he holds 5 different citizenships. He is the number one Cambodia killer. From the 80's until present, the Kingdom of Cambodia is shrinking its territory enormously from land to sea . The multi Ph.D. graduate Samdech Si Cho Hun Sen is hold responsible for the loss of Cambodia's territory. This notorious leader can never see territory farther than Phnom Penh .
MOI= Mother Of Ignoramus
MOI:
Masters of Ineptness
Masters of Incompetency
Minister of Intoxication (you work for AAA?)
Matters of Illness (Especially of the brain) and last, not least though,
Mok ompi Ia-kachach (coming from the ear wax, dumb person)
Man of impurity (he has sreng, watch out its contagious, no wonder he scratches his butt all the time)
Hun Sen knows he might lose more votes this time around. He brought this topic up about citizenships because he just can`t kill his opponents with dual citizenships. So by making them change their status, he can get his hands on them and make them disappear forever.
Like the other OPP said...You would rather have Cambodia run by Youn Slave and turn our country into Champa II or Laos.
Come on! This is a democratic country! You're free to say whatever you want, but remember: freedom of speech has its limitations. In other words, there's no such thing as "Freedom of speech," but there's a "Freedom of responsibility."
Further, "Freedom of speech" can be a double-edged sword. Therefore, I would gingerly careful what I say and how I say it to avert any cataclysmic repercussion.
Cheers,
MOI
How come everyone in this forum have so much animosity, repugnance and pugnacity against our government?
This is a government for the people -- not against the people.
Perhaps just horrible habits for you people.
A tout à l'heure !
MOI
