Apsara: A Khmer poem shared by Chanda C.

Click on the photo and poem to zoom in
Dear Editor:

Attached is a poem which I wrote as a tribute to an Apsara image I encountered near the main walk way of Angkor Wat promenade. The moment I saw her image, I felt something unsual about her facial expression. It was as if I have seen a distraught woman who had been violated and abused like a sex slave in modern time. I also thought of the carver(s) of this image. It was as if the carver(s) knew that her proximity to the walk way will make her an easy target for abuses by bad people once her protector(s) failed to properly protect her. In a sense, this Apsara could very well be the symbol of Cambodia which has been exploited, abused, and trampled upon by hordes of invaders over the past years.

Hope you can post this poem up for our readers to read.

Thank you.
Chanda C.

What is an asshole (Chanda C.)?

The symbol of Cambodia is what's going to help millions of us out of poverty.

The only thing that is being trampled on is the stupid floor which can be repaired and replaced quite easily. Other than that, no one is trampled on walls.

Khmer cultural images once destroyed is irreplaceable. The Angkor Wat complexes is an gift and pride for many Khmers. We ought to protect our culture heritage!

What can be done to rid of poverty? There are many ways. But, the Khmer elite became very Capitalistic after the calamity. The poorer/poorest have trampled on because many Khmers have no moral principle anymore.

The first commentor is very critical. And so I like to sign off by saying "Ignorance is degrading only when found in company with riches".

Nonsense, 6:42, the Ankor Watt is 100% safe. If it have lasted for nearly a 1,000 years, it will not have any problem handled 1,000 more. We need jobs and developments to relief people out of hardships fast. Thus, we need more tourist, about 10 times, as fast as we can get them.

Therefore, I call on all entrepreneurs to help make the Ankor Watt the world best tourist attraction of the world.

The Khmer nation is so rich in arts, language and poetry. Yet it is so poor at practising tolerance, at respecting human rights and freedoms, and at considering one another as fellow human beings.

I've been visiting those temples and Aparas many times since my student days. I still vividly remember how, when we were gradually approaching the Angkor Wat temple from the road from the Siemreap airport, I felt so overwhelmed and awed by all its majesty. This majesty was so great and overwhelming that I felt I was just a spec of dust standing right in front of it. That was in December 1965.

With such richness, the Khmer nation should be a very happy nation where everybody can enjoy a decent life in freedom. It is unacceptable it has so much suffered, and many of its members continue to do so.

Come on, Dr. Lao. stop hallucinating. We (Khmer) are not lacking any human right, freedom, or what have you. When the last time did an ordinary Khmer person complaint to you about lacking freedom or Human right?

And yes, the poverty is still unacceptable because we have lot of complaint about people having trouble feeding their family, but we are helping them as fast as we can. And if you can do better, please come over and show us your magic, will ya?

10:26, we don't want Hun Sen to give up power. He's doing great so far, and we love him. There is no hope for Khmer people without Hun Sen.

Need no Dr. Lao to do it or say it just listen to many new report around the world!(don' just listen to only Vietcon Radio)

The key to be better are:

-Fair election.
-Stop corruption.
-independent justice system!

To do all of the above, start with 1 term limited Priminister!

And you and your family of bad blood from Vietnamese-evil go back to H(ell)anoi.

Do me mei ah saker!

Well, we got fair election, low corruption, and fully independent justice, and that is good enough.
