PHNOM PENH, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) will comfortably win the July 27, 2008 national election, according to the results of survey conducted by an independent political observer, the Institute for Civic Education (ICE), local media said on Thursday.
The preliminary findings of ICE found that based on previous election results, the CPP may obtain 61 parliamentary seats, the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) 42, with other parties sharing the remaining 20, reported Cambodian-language newspaper the Sralanh Khmer.
However, SRP president Sam Rainsy said the prediction is not necessarily 100 percent accurate.
"For CPP, we have observed that in past commune elections, it has received increasing votes, but in national elections, it received less," said Sam Rainsy, arguing that his party will win in the upcoming election as more and more voters are supporting his party.
Although predicting that CPP may win the forthcoming election, the survey doesn't rule out the decisive factor of the 2.5 million voters absent in the 2007 commune election, reported another Cambodian-language newspaper the Koh Santepheap.
There will surely be great change if they go to vote in the 2008 election, the paper added.
In the 2007 commune election on April 1, CPP won most posts in the communes, while SRP trailed CPP with its quality performance.
CPP has co-governed the kingdom with the Funcinpec Party for more than a decade. SRP has emerged as the largest opposition party in recent years.

How cn a prediction 100 per cent accurate?
LAO Mong Hay, Hong Kong
Don't trust Sralang Khmer news, Dr. Lao. They rarely know what they are talking about.
You have figured all wrong pales.
Samdech Hun Sen already figured them out as follow:
CPP=110 seats
FUN= 8 seats
NRP= 4 seats
SRP= 1 seat
That's the deal for 2008 election!
all done. dont worry to spend too much times and money.
SRP should work harder to win the election. The following messages should be delivered:
1. If you vote for CPP, you vote to increase the price of fuel. If you vote for SRP, you vote to lower the price of fuel;
2. If you vote for CPP, you vote for corruption to take place, if you vote for SRP, you vote to remove corruption and you vote to increase the salaries of civil servants, teachers, police, soldiers....
Yes, the forecast by PM Hun Sen sounds much better as shown by 1:49.
Plus, that is what the heaven decided also.
SRP has chance to win CPP by strategizing like this:
- building a suitable alliance
- shower more capable members inside the party to entrust people to lead government
- stand firmly on creating jobs, improving family economy...
- stand firmly to deal with corruption
-....etc
KY
It doesn't matter whether you fluky theories work or not, 4:45, because westerner trained people are out of fashion in Cambodia for the miserable life they put us (Khmer) throughout history.
I don't understand you 6:22PM
ky
Hey dumb ass 6:22 PM, if you don't like Western trained people, why does your one-eye prime minister wasted millions of dollars hiring Westerners to help run your country everyday. Maybe you are too stupid to know that your governemts are a bunch of morons.
Well, that is because it is better to used Westerner directly than to use Fluky Westerner trained idiots.
Do not underestimate your own people's ability to think. Hun Sen might just wake up to a sad reality one day. What is inside the people's heart no one knows. I still believe in my own people. From person to person, commune to commune, from district to district we will build our network of supporters. You can talk all you want, but we are doing the job on the grounds. The only party that Hun Sen fear the most is SRP. That is the fact. Funcinpec, Kem Sokha, the rests, they are all alliances of CPP and Vietnam. Nothing more nothing less. That is a pure fact. Who is standing for the rights of all Cambodians? Sam Rainsy. For the poors and all the anikachun Khmers abroad. Some are really stupid enough to see. If you know how the political sytem works, you all should be supporting Sam Rainsy to go head to head with Hun Sen and maybe all of us can one day can enjoy being Cambodian again.
My 2 cents for the day.
